Composite control cables and stabilizing tendons for aircraft applications and method for manufacture of same
12037744 · 2024-07-16 · ·

Control and stabilizing cables and tendons for high altitude aircraft and airships having lightweight, high strength and low CTE are disclosed, along with a method and machine for fabrication of same. The cable is comprised of a fiber prepreg tow encased in a polymer sleeve with one bobbin at each end to facilitate connections. Consolidating the fiber prepreg tow along the length of the cable using high temperature shrink tubing, such as polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), allows for eliminating the twisting of the fiber prepreg tow, thus reducing the number of wraps around the bobbins. Eliminating the twists in the fiber prepreg tow also reduces the length of fiber needed, and therefore the overall change in length of the control cable with temperature variations is reduced. Additional cable strength can be achieved by adding and holding significant tension on the fiber prepreg tow by applying weight during the curing process.

Provided are molds for polar anisotropic ring-shaped bonded magnet molded articles which enable the production of bonded magnet molded articles with a high degree of roundness and only slight distortion, without the need for mold modification and preparation of a test mold, and a method of preparing such molds. The present invention relates to a method of preparing a mold for a polar anisotropic ring-shaped bonded magnet molded article, the method including: 1) determining the shrinkage length (Tc) of a desired polar anisotropic ring-shaped bonded magnet molded article using the following equation: Tc=T?(?1/100??2/100); 2) determining the radius (Dm) of a magnetic pole portion of a mold cavity using the following equation: Dm=D/(1??2/100); and 3) defining the outer peripheral shape of the mold cavity from the Tc, the Dm, and the number (P) of magnetic poles of the molded article.

An example method of manufacturing a heat-shrink elastomeric element comprises providing a thermoplastic elastomeric element having a first shape; modifying the thermoplastic elastomeric element to produce a thermoset elastomeric element having the first shape; heating the thermoset elastomeric element to a temperature of at least the glass transition temperature of the thermoset elastomeric element; adjusting the first shape of the thermoset elastomeric element to produce a second shape with at least one dimension greater than that of the first shape; and cooling the thermoset elastomeric element to a temperature below that of the glass transition temperature of the thermoset elastomeric element to produce the heat-shrink elastomeric element.

METHODS FOR MAKING FLEXIBLE CONTAINERS AND ASSOCIATED PRODUCTS

Disclosed is a method for making a flexible container. The method implements an injection mold having a collapsible core that expands/moves to define the apertures and, in some embodiments, holds a flexible film in place during the injection mold process and collapses/moves back post-injection molding to allow for the flexible container to be readily removed from the die. In addition, the method described includes a post-injection molding anneal process that is implemented to allow the flexible film to shrink so as to provide for form-fitting of the film to the molded portion of the container.

The invention provides a heat-shrinkable polyester film which has a high heat shrinkage rate in the width direction, exhibits a low heat shrinkage rate in the longitudinal direction, and has a great mechanical strength in the longitudinal direction, good openability along perforations, and excellent shrink finish. The film has a hot-water heat shrinkage rate of 40% to 85% in the main shrinking direction and 5% to 15% in the perpendicular direction when the film is immersed in hot water at 98 C. for 10 seconds, and a maximum shrinkage stress of 2-7 MPa in the main shrinking direction when measured in hot air of 90 C. and the shrinkage stress 30 seconds after measurement of the shrinkage stress has started is of 60-100% of the maximum shrinkage stress. The film contains 6 mol % or more of diethylene glycol-derived constituent units with respect to 100 mol % of all polyester resin components.
