Device and method for rapid aspiration and collection of body tissue from within an enclosed body space

Device and method for rapid extraction of body tissue from an enclosed body cavity. Hollow entry cannula with optional core element provides entry into body tissue space such as bone marrow. Aspiration cannula is inserted through the hollow entry cannula into the body tissue and is manipulated to advance directionally through the body cavity. Optional stylet within the aspiration cannula aids in advancing the aspiration cannula through the body tissue and is removed to facilitate extraction of the body tissue through the aspiration cannula. Inlet openings near distal tip of the aspiration cannula allow tissue aspiration, with negative pressure source at the proximal end of the aspiration cannula providing controlled negative pressure. The aspiration cannula may be withdrawn and its path adjusted for multiple entries through a same entry point, following different paths through the body tissue space for subsequent aspiration of more tissue.

A cell culture transferring instrument includes a cylindrical body held by an operator not shown in the drawing, a plunger inserted through the interior of the cylindrical body, a plurality of support members connected to a distal end of the plunger, and an adsorbent capable of adsorbing a sheet-shaped cell culture held by the support members. The support members in contact with the distal end of the cylindrical body are elastically deformed by displacing the plunger toward the proximal end side with respect to the cylindrical body in a state in which the sheet-shaped cell culture is adsorbed to the adsorbent, whereby the adsorbent and the sheet-shaped cell culture are deformed and housed in a housing hole in the cylindrical body.

The present invention provides a loading fixture for loading cells, cell clusters, and media to an immune-isolation device. The loading fixture permits the loading of cells into the immune-isolation device without manual manipulation of the immune-isolation device, until the loading device is opened at the point of use, thereby minimizing the risk of contamination of the immune-isolation device.

The present invention provides for methods and devices suitable for producing a transplantable cellular suspension of living tissue suitable for grafting to a patient. In applying the method and/or in using the device, donor tissue is harvested, subjected to a cell dissociation treatment, cells suitable for grafting back to a patient are collected and dispersed in a solution that is suitable for immediate dispersion over the recipient graft site.

Methods and apparatus for stimulating and recording neural activity

Thermal drawing processes can be used to make multifunctional, high-resolution neural probes for neural recording and stimulation. An exemplary neural probe may include one or more conductive fibers or microelectrodes coated with two or more layers of insulating material, at least one of which is partially etched to expose a tip at the neural probe's distal end. The conductive fibers conduct electrical signals (e.g., neural spikes or electrical stimulation) between the tip and the neural probe's proximal end. Optional optical and fluidic waveguides may guide light and fluid, respectively, between the tip and the proximal end. A neural probe may be flexible enough for long-term (chronic) implantation in neural tissue (e.g., the brain) without excessive tissue damage, even during movement of the brain in the skull. The probe may be made from biocompatible materials, such as insulating and conductive polymers, that have negligible (insignificant) interaction with the surrounding tissue.

CELL SEPARATION APPARATUS

Systems and methods herein are directed towards the separation of biologic material to obtain a target cell volume and/or cell concentration for harvesting. The target volume and/or concentration of cells may be obtained through a single cycle via three chambers, or by repeated cycles through one or more chambers to dilute the digestive enzymes used in the process and concentrate the harvestable cell volume to a predetermined target.

WOUND MANAGEMENT ASSEMBLIES, KITS, AND METHODS

Wound management assemblies, kits, and methods are disclosed. A wound management assembly can include a guidewire and a wound matrix compressed onto the guidewire. The wound matrix can optionally be derived from a perfusion-decellularized mammalian tissue or organ. The assembly can further include a tamp member positioned on the guidewire, proximal to a position of the wound matrix. The assembly can be delivered to a desired location within a wound bed using the guidewire or using an introducer set included in a kit. A method can include navigating the wound management assembly to the entrance of the wound bed, using the tamp member to distally urge the wound matrix into the wound bed, and subsequently removing the tamp member, the guidewire, and a sheath if used.

Nanofiber-hydrogel composites for cell and tissue delivery

A composite material can include a gel and at least one nanostructure disposed within the gel. A method for healing a soft tissue defect can include applying a composite material to a soft tissue defect, wherein the composite material includes a gel and a nanostructure disposed within the gel. A method for manufacturing a composite material for use in healing soft tissue defects can include providing a gel and disposing nanofibers within the gel.
