METHOD FOR MAKING EMBEDDED HYDROGEL CONTACT LENSES

The invention provides a method for producing delamination-resistant embedded contact lenses involving use of a mold set in two-curing steps and a special lens-forming composition for forming a bulk hydrogel material for embedding a crosslinked polymeric insert. The mold set consists of three mold halves, one of which is used twice, the first time for molding an insert from an insert-forming composition and the second time for an embedded contact lens with the molded insert embedded therein from the special lens-forming composition that a vinylic crosslinking agent and or organic solvent both of which independent of each other can swell an insert by a moderate swelling degree. The resultant embedded hydrogel contact lenses can be free of deformation and delamination.

Described are methods of two-dimensionally and three-dimensionally forming an article of wear using vacuum forming in an automated process. In the two-dimensional method, the article of wear comprises a generally flat shape with three-dimensional features molded into the first material layer.

Diffuser membrane and method of manufacture

A diffuser membrane and a method for manufacturing the same are provided. In the method for manufacturing, a first material is heated and extruded to form a base layer and a second material is heated and extruded to form a coating layer. The base layer and coating layer may be extruded substantially simultaneously in a coextrusion process. Accordingly, the coating may be applied to the base layer in a manner that optimizes the bonding between the two layers and provides the ability to control the thickness of the coating layer. Alternatively, the base layer is formed initially and the coating layer is subsequently formed thereover. The first and second materials have differing properties. The first material may comprise polyurethane and the second material may comprise polyurethane and PTFE.

HEAT-SEAL FAILURE PREVENTION METHOD AND ARTICLE

A co-injected molded multi-layer article has inner and outer layers, an interior layer contained within the inner and outer layers and a surface portion to which a closure or other component may be heat-sealed. The article is molded by co-injecting the inner, outer and interior layer materials into a mold cavity of a mold. The interior layer material is caused to flow along a steam line offset from the zero velocity gradient of the combined material flow and biased toward a material flow for forming an outer wall of the multi-layer article. The resultant molded multi-layer article contains an interior layer located in a heat sealable region that avoids a breach or failure during a heat seal operation to seal an opening of the molded article.

High pressure gas hose and method of making same

A high pressure gas hose and related methods of transporting high pressure gases in which gas permeability throughout a length of the high pressure gas hose is reduced. The high pressure gas hose can have an outer tube and the inner tube. The outer tube can be formed of a resistant polymer material such as PTFE. The inner tube can include a matrix formed of PTFE and graphene nano-platelets or nano-particles. The graphene nano-platelets define a tortuous path within the matrix such that gas permeability is reduced through an inner tube wall thickness. Gas permeability throughout a length of the high pressure gas hose can be less that about 20 ml/m/hr. The high pressure gas hose can find practical application in natural gas applications, automotive applications, cooling and refrigeration applications and other applications in which it is desired to have low gas permeability in high pressure applications.

MEMBRANE FOR LIQUID-RESISTANT DEVICES AND METHODS OF MAKING A MEMBRANE

A bracket assembly suitable for use with an electronic device is described. The bracket assembly may include a bracket body having a channel. The bracket assembly may further include a membrane embedded in the bracket body and designed to allow air, but not liquid (such as water), to pass through the membrane. The membrane may be at least partially surrounded by a membrane support molded to the membrane. The membrane and the membrane support may be disposed in a molding tool to receive a material used to mold the bracket body over the membrane and the membrane support. During the molding operation, the membrane support may act as a buffer to shield the membrane from temperature and pressure increases associated with the molding operation of the bracket body. The bracket assembly may improve the ability of the electronic device to prevent liquid ingress.

Techniques and implementations pertaining to an integrated gas diffusion layer with a sealing function are described. A method for making the integrated gas diffusion layer with the sealing function may involve placing a gas diffusion member inside a mold followed by injecting a sealing material into the mold. The method may also involve having the sealing material substantially covers a peripheral portion of the gas diffusion member and at least partially penetrates into a peripheral portion of the gas diffusion member. The method may further involve curing the sealing material to form a sealing member having a lip ring. A height of a portion of the mold corresponding to a non-lip ring portion of the sealing member is less than or equal to a thickness of the gas diffusion member.

The present disclosure relates to the technical field of silicone rubbers, and discloses a preparation method for an air-permeable and antibacterial silicone rubber material and an application thereof in home textiles. Activated silicone rubber and double quaternary ammonium salt-type benzoic acid are subjected to an esterification reaction under the catalysis of p-toluenesulfonic acid to obtain double quaternary ammonium salt-grafted silicone rubber. The double quaternary ammonium salt-grafted silicone rubber is blended with silicone rubber and then applied to home textiles, wherein the quaternary ammonium salt component can destroy cellular enzymes in bacteria and has an antibacterial effect, and the silicon-oxygen-silicon in the silicone rubber not only has excellent air permeability, but also has excellent mechanical properties. Finally, the home textile material with excellent antibacterial properties, air permeability and mechanical properties is obtained.
