Laminated composite structures with interlaminar corrugations to improve impact damage resistance, and system and method of forming the same
There is provided a laminated composite structure having improved impact damage resistance and improved strength. The laminated composite structure has a plurality of stacked layers of a composite material. The plurality of stacked layers have one or more interlaminar corrugations formed within the plurality of stacked layers. Each interlaminar corrugation has a substantially sinusoidal shaped profile, and has a depth and a length dependent on a size of the laminated composite structure formed. The laminated composite structure with the one or more interlaminar corrugations has improved strength and improved impact damage resistance at an exposed edge of the laminated composite structure, when the exposed edge is subjected to an impact force.
FIBER-REINFORCED RESIN COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING FIBER-REINFORCED RESIN COMPOSITE MATERIAL
A fiber-reinforced resin composite material includes first and second members. The first member includes a first fiber and a first matrix resin. The first fiber includes a reinforcing fiber and is impregnated with the first matrix resin. The reinforcing fiber has a melting point and a tensile strength higher than those of an aliphatic polyamide fiber. The second member includes a stack and a second matrix resin. The stack includes a second fiber and a third fiber filled with the second matrix resin. The second fiber includes the reinforcing fiber. The second matrix resin includes a component common to that of the first matrix resin, and includes a first polyamide resin that includes an aliphatic polyamide resin. The third fiber includes a second polyamide resin that includes an aliphatic polyamide resin and has a melting point higher than that of the first polyamide resin by 7 to 50 degrees centigrade.

Therefore, the present invention can provide: a thermoplastic resin composition for laser direct structuring, capable of implementing excellent whiteness while maintaining excellent impact resistance and rigidity; and a molded article comprising the same.

Disclosed is a resin composition for an exterior material of a vehicle. The resin composition may include an amount of about 40 to 90 parts by weight of polypropylene resin having a melt index of about 70 to 110 g/10 min; an amount of about 10 to 40 parts by weight of an olefin block copolymer including an ethylene-based repeating unit and a -olefin-based repeating unit having 4 to 30 carbon atoms; an amount of about 10 to 20 parts by weight of needle-shaped inorganic filler having an aspect ratio of about 5 to 10; and an 0.01 to 5 parts by weight of laser-transmitting black colorant, wherein all the parts by weights based on 100 parts by weight of the resin composition. In particular, an average transmittance may range from about 0.01 to about 1% or less in a wavelength of about 380 to 700 nm, and an average transmittance may range from about 15% or greater and less than about 100% in a wavelength of about 800 to 1200 nm.
Oriented Films Comprising Ethylene-Based Polymers and Methods of Making the Same
Provided are oriented films comprising linear low density polyethylene polymer and having improved balance of properties including improved machine direction tear strength. The oriented polymer film has at least one layer comprising 50 to 100 wt. % of an ethylene-based polymer. The MDO polymer film has a normalized MD Elmendorf Tear (ASTM D-1922) of at least 40 g/m. In certain embodiments, the MDO polymer film surprisingly does not tear when MD Elmendorf Tear is measured according to ASTM D-1922.
