Various embodiments relate to a device for the production of preforms for aircraft structural components, having a supply unit for the continuous supply of a layer structure with at least one fiber layer, having a heating unit with at least one infrared heater which has an infrared radiation source, wherein the supplied layer structure is passed through the heating unit in a conveying direction and can be heated there over at least part of its width in cross section by the at least one infrared heater, a disk which is permeable to infrared radiation being arranged between the layer structure and the infrared heater.

METHOD OF FORMING A SPLICED JOINT IN A HANDRAIL OR OTHER ELONGATE ARTICLE

A handrail has a thermoplastic body having a generally C-shaped cross section, a stretch inhibitor in the thermoplastic body above a T-shaped slot and a slider fabric layer. The handrail includes first and second end portions, each comprising a forward part extending from an end surface of the end portion and a rear part adjacent the forward part. A method of forming a joint can include: providing cuts to separate a top section of the thermoplastic body from a base section including shoulder portions; for each end portion, removing at least shoulder portions from the forward part thereof, to leave a central portion including a forward part at the slider fabric layer and a layer of thermoplastic; cutting the forward parts to a required shape; and assembling the first and second end portions together to form a spliced joint for moulding.

Apparatus for forming a contoured hat stiffener

A flexible punch and die are used to form a flat composite laminate charge into a stiffener having a desired cross sectional shape. A desired contour is formed in the stiffener by bending the punch and die. Ply wrinkling is avoided during contouring by maintaining those portions of the stiffener subject to wrinkling in tension as the contouring is being performed. Bridging of the plies during the contouring process is avoided by first contouring those sections of the stiffener that are subject to wrinkling, and then contouring the remaining sections of the stiffener.

COMPOSITE STRUCTURE AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREFOR

A composite structural body (A) includes a first metal member (M1) having a plate-like shape, a second metal member (M2) having a plate-like shape, and a resin member (R) that integrates the first metal member (M1) and the second metal member (M2) with each other. The resin member (R) includes a first resin layer (R1) that coats astride one main surface of the first metal member (M1) and one main surface of the second metal member (M2), and a second resin layer (R2) that coats astride another main surface of the first metal member (M1) and another main surface of the second metal member (M2). The composite structural body (A) is provided as a composite structural body that has satisfactory moldability, that is capable of securing sufficient strength, and that is suitable as a component of a structure such as a vehicle body.

PULTRUSION WITH EXTRUDED GASKET FOAM
20220145000 · 2022-05-12 ·

The present teachings generally provide a system comprising a pultruded profile and a two-part system with a first component including one or more epoxy resins and a second component including one or more phosphate esters such that mixing the first component and second component forms an activatable material that activates at a temperature of about 0° C. to about 50° C. The activatable material is extruded onto the pultruded profile such that residual heat from pultrusion in the pultruded profile activates the activatable material.

Pre-stressed fiber reinforcing member and method for its manufacture

A composite structural article (100) includes a polymeric body (35) having a first major surface (24) and an opposing second major surface (22) and a rib element (30) extending away from the first major surface. A reinforcing member (10) is embedded within a free end portion (34) of the rib member (30). The reinforcing member includes an elongated polymer rod having a rod length and a plurality of co-extending continuous fibers (20), embedded and distributed within the elongated polymer rod. The fibers are under tension and may have a helical or twisted configuration along the rod length.

Constrained Forming of Contoured Composite Hat Stringers

Cap wrinkling in a contoured composite hat stringer is reduced by constraining the cap as the hat stringer is being formed from a flat composite charge. The cap is constrained by an inflatable bladder placed in a tool set used to form the composite charge.

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PRODUCING A REINFORCING PROFILE
20230249414 · 2023-08-10 · ·

A method and a device for producing a reinforcing profile from at least one layer (1, 2, 3) cut out of a preimpregnated fibrous web are described, said layer (1, 2, 3) being applied to a mould core (4) determining the profile shape, being retained on the mould core (4) in the application region (6), and being pressed progressively onto the mould core, starting from this application region (6), transversely to the profile longitudinal direction, as far as the profile longitudinal edges. In order to create advantageous production conditions, it is proposed that the layer (1, 2, 3) be pressed incrementally progressively so as to be shaped onto the mould core (4), in the longitudinal direction thereof, with the aid of moulding punches (8) that are arranged offset with respect to one another both in the circumferential direction and in the longitudinal direction of the mould core (4) and are able to be forced in the direction of the moulding faces of the mould core (4).

INJECTION MOLDED COMPOSITE BLANK AND GUIDE

This specification discloses an article of manufacture. The article of manufacture has at least one structural blank and at least one guide. The structural blank has a plurality of oriented fiber plies in a thermoplastic matrix. The guide has a plurality of random dispersed fibers in a thermoplastic matrix. The guide is affixed to the structural blank by injection molding and over molding the guide onto the structural blank. The article of manufacture can take a number of forms for use in industries such as aircraft, automobiles, motorcycles, bicycles, trains or watercraft.

Chassis link for a motor vehicle

A component part for a motor vehicle having a hollow profile portion of a fiber-reinforced plastic and a load introduction element of a metal material. The hollow profile portion and the load introduction element are connected in a common connection portion via a nondetachable, glued plug-in connection in which an end portion of the load introduction element and an end portion of the hollow profile portion engage in one another by positive engagement. The end portion of the load introduction element has a spline with teeth extending in longitudinal direction of the common connection portion so that the stiffness of the end portion of the load introduction element reduced in longitudinal direction of the common connection portion.
