IMPLANTABLE CELLULAR AND BIOTHERAPEUTIC AGENT DELIVERY CANISTER
A material includes a metallic, nanoporous structure having a plurality of nanopores having a porosity that allows passage of insulin but not IgG. The metallic nanoporous structure includes titanium, 316L stainless steel and may have a textured nano-sericeous surface. A nanoporous bicontinuous structure can be integrated with nanopores.
MAPPING AND QUANTIFYING SHEAR STRESS AND HEMOLYSIS IN PATIENTS
Provided herein are methods for in-vivo assessment of intraventricular flow shear stress, risk of hemolysis, also the location and extent of blood flow stasis regions and inside a cardiac chamber or blood vessel. Also provided herein are systems for performing such methods. Also provided herein are methods for assessing hemolysis and/or thrombosis risk in patients implanted with an LVAD. LVAD positioning and/or speed may be adjusted based on the results obtained by using methods described herein, and the risk for hemolysis and/or thrombosis can be minimized.
Negative Pressure Wound Therapy Device Having Helical Elements
A device is configured for use in negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT). The device includes a tube having a tube proximal end and a tube distal end and A coil having a plurality of windings extending from a coil proximal end to a coil distal end. The coil distal end is coupled to the tube proximal end in a manner that enables application of a negative pressure from within the coil through the coil to tissue surrounding the coil. The coil comprises a space between adjacent ones of the plurality of windings, the space having a predetermined dimension.
Implantable vein localizer and methods of accessing a vein using same
A method for gaining access to a vein includes implanting a vein localizer above or adjacent an anterior portion of a vein. The vein localizer features a fluorescent coating which emits visible light upon illumination by an external light. This makes visualization easier for a more confident vessel puncture at the first attempt. The invention is designed to reduce failed venipunctures, improve patient comfort and avoid unnecessary time and expense associated with multiple vein punctures.
TOTAL JOINT REPLACEMENT INFECTION CONTROL DEVICES AND METHODS
An orthopedic system for delivery of a therapeutic agent to a bone includes an elongate stem adapted to be inserted into an intramedullary canal, an inlet configured to receive the therapeutic agent, and one or more outlets configured to deliver the therapeutic agent to the bone. The elongate stem may comprise one or more protrusions to engage the bone, and one or more channels extending longitudinally therein, fluidly coupled to the inlet. The therapeutic agent flows from the inlet through the one or more channels and exits into the intramedullary canal through the one or more outlets. The system may be configured to allow one or more dimensions of the system to be adjusted to accommodate the anatomy of a patient.
Prevention of biofilm formation
Antibacterial coatings and methods of making the antibacterial coatings are described herein. A first branched polyethylenimine (BPEI) layer is formed and a first glyoxal layer is formed on a surface of the BPEI layer. The first BPEI layer and the first glyoxal layer are cured to form a crosslinked BPEI coating. The first BPEI layer can be modified with superhydrophobic moieties, superhydrophilic moieties, or negatively charged moieties to increase the antifouling characteristics of the coating. The first BPEI layer can be modified with contact-killing bactericidal moieties to increase the bactericidal characteristics of the coating.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR A CATHETER STABILIZATION AND OCCLUDER APPARATUS
Various embodiments of a catheter stabilizer that includes a retention body and an occluder for positioning within a burr hole or other channel in the body for occlusion and stabilization of a catheter during a surgical procedure are described herein.
DRAINAGE DEVICE
The present disclosure relates generally to the field of medical devices and establishing fluid communication between body lumens. In particular, the present disclosure relates to devices and methods for body lumen access and/or drainage, and devices and methods for creating an open flow passage between two or more body lumens.
TREE-BASED DATA EXPLORATION AND DATA-DRIVEN PROTOCOL
A method for providing a treatment recommendation to a physician for treating a patient is disclosed. The method comprises determining, from a processor in communication with a patient data repository, a first treatment recommendation based on a combination of selected patient demographics from the patient data repository applicable to the patient, and operational parameters of a plurality of ventricular assist devices (VADs) suitable for treating the patient, the first treatment recommendation having a first survival rate and comprising the use of a first VAD. The method then obtains a first signal from using the first VAD on the patient. The method then determines a second treatment recommendation based on the first signal and the first treatment recommendation, the second treatment recommendation having a second survival rate. The method then provides the second treatment recommendation to the physician if the second survival rate is higher than the first survival rate.
EXTERNAL END DEVICE EQUIPPED WITH A TISSUE-INGROWTH CUFF
An external end device has a casing (4), including a base (5), in which a distal opening (12) is formed which receives a funnel-shaped septum (14) having a tube trunk (140). Inside the tube trunk (140) the catheter (3) is connected to the distal section (16) of the fitting (15). A tubular coating (2) has a proximal end adapted to be grafted onto the tube trunk (140) and a distal end coaxially adhering to the catheter (3). A pair of bands (90, 91) of tissue-ingrowth material is fixed on the tubular coating (2), and an anchor ring (92), equipped with anchoring means, is sandwiched between the bands (90, 91).
