Bumper beam for automobile, method for manufacturing bumper beam, and structure for mounting bumper beam in vehicle body

A bumper beam body 13 and upper and lower parts of a flange portion 22 each contain a continuous fiber reinforced polymer layer 20, and a first flange tip portion 22a made of thermoplastic resin that has an L-shaped cross section extending outward in a vertical direction and then curving outward in a vehicle rear-front direction is connected to edges of the flange portion 22. Thereby, even when continuous fibers and matrix resin of the continuous fiber reinforced polymer layer 20 stick out from the edges of the flange portion 22 as flash, this flash can be covered with the first flange tip portion 22a.

LOAD-BEARING PARTS WITH NETWORKS OF INTERCONNECTING BRANCHES AND METHODS OF MAKING THE SAME

In one example, a load-bearing, three-dimensional printed part resists a load. The load-bearing part has a load-receiving member, a support member, and a network of interconnected branches. The load-receiving member has an outer surface that receives the load. The support member is offset from the load-receiving member along a first direction. The network of interconnected branches extends from the load-receiving member to the support member, and includes a first primary branch and an auxiliary branch. The first primary branch has a first primary-branch end attached to one of the load-receiving member and the support member. The auxiliary branch has a first auxiliary-branch end attached to the first primary branch, and a second auxiliary-branch end attacked to one of (i) the load-receiving member, (ii) the support member, and (iii) a second primary branch.

MOUNTING DEVICE

A belly pan includes a first sheet having at least one energy management feature and a second sheet having a smooth aerodynamic surface. The first sheet is bonded to the second sheet. The belly pan is produced utilizing a twin sheet vacuum forming process.

Infrared welded exterior panel assembly and process of making same

An exterior body panel assembly having a Class A painted surface, mold-in color or non-Class A surface, and process of infrared welding components of the assembly. Panels of the assembly are placed on a nesting structure and the inside half of the structures are brought together with the other for a fit check. Panels are separated and an infrared heating fixture then heats the various areas to be heated on the panels. The areas on the panels are heated depending on the thicknesses of the parts at each area and surface geometries to be welded. The parts are immediately clamped back together under pressure for joining and cooling of the joined surfaces in the clamped arrangement.

Long Fiber-Reinforced Propylene Composition for Use in a Thin Part

A fiber-reinforced polymer composition that comprises a polymer matrix that contains a propylene polymer is provided. The polymer matrix constitutes from about 30 wt. % to about 80 wt. % of the composition, and a plurality of long reinforcing fibers that are distributed within the polymer matrix. The fibers constitute from about 20 wt. % to about 70 wt. % of the composition. The polymer composition exhibits a spiral flow length of about 450 millimeters or more as determined in accordance with ASTM D3121-09, and after aging at a temperature of 150 C. for 1,000 hours, a Charpy unnotched impact strength greater than about 15 kJ/m.sup.2 as determined at a temperature of 23 C. in accordance with ISO Test No. 179-1:2010.

PLASTIC-WELDING DEVICE
20180169966 · 2018-06-21 · ·

The invention relates to a plastic-welding device for connecting a first, thin-walled plastic part to a second plastic part in a planar manner. The device includes a hand-held mounting aid and a welding head that can be held in a retainer of a hand soldering iron; wherein the welding head has a main body and at least one welding tip arranged on the main body. The mounting aid has at least one spacer, which can be placed onto the thin-walled plastic part by means of an underside of the at least one spacer and on the surface of which the main body of the welding head can be supported. The spacer is designed so that, when the main body is supported on the at least one spacer, a depth of penetration of the welding tip into the plastic parts to be connected is limited to a predetermined maximum value.

Process and arrangement for making a reinforced structural member

Process for making a reinforced structural member, in particular forming part of an automobile or other vehicle or an aeroplane or a ship, the reinforced structural member comprising an original structural member and a reinforcing carrier and an adhesive bead and/or a plurality of adhesive plots arranged between an outer surface of the reinforcing carrier and a contact surface of the original structural member, for structurally bonding the reinforcing carrier to the original structural member.
