Generally, a sterile adapter for use in robotic surgery may include a frame configured to be interposed between a tool driver and a surgical tool, a plate assembly coupled to the frame, and at least one rotatable coupler supported by the plate assembly and configured to communicate torque from an output drive of the tool driver to an input drive of the surgical tool.

Device for sealing a tracheostoma in a patient

A device for sealing a tracheostoma in a patient includes a seal member for insertion through the tracheostoma to a trachea. The seal member includes a disc having a predetermined line of weakness. In a first configuration, the seal member forms a seal by being pulled against the tracheostoma. In a second configuration, the seal member is removed from the trachea through the tracheostoma by breaking along the line of weakness.

COMPRESSIBLE ADJUNCT WITH CROSSING SPACER FIBERS

A staple cartridge assembly for use with a surgical stapling instrument includes a staple cartridge including a plurality of staples and a cartridge deck. The staple cartridge assembly also includes a compressible adjunct positionable against the cartridge deck, wherein the staples are deployable into tissue captured against the compressible adjunct, and wherein the compressible adjunct comprises a first biocompatible layer comprising a first portion, a second biocompatible layer comprising a second portion, and crossed spacer fibers extending between the first portion and the second portion.

Reusable ultrasonic transducer and generator assemblies, surgical instruments including the same, and methods of manufacturing the same

An ultrasonic transducer and generator (TAG) assembly of a surgical instrument includes generator components and transducer components. The generator components are disposed within a first cavity cooperatively defined by a body portion and a cover. The generator components are covered in a thermally insulative material. The transducer components are disposed within a second cavity cooperatively defined by a proximal housing and a spinner housing.

Some tissue adhesives include a solid having bio-absorbable fibers and at least one of nano-spheres, micro-spheres, nano-tubules, or micro-tubules. A first layer of the solid has a positive Poisson's ratio and a second layer of the solid has a negative Poisson's ratio. In some cases, the second layer has been transformed from a positive Poisson's ratio material to a negative Poisson's ratio material. In some cases, an entire face of the first layer is in contact with an entire face of the second layer. In some cases, the second layer includes one or more pores, at least a portion of the one or more pores containing a secretion from one or more barnacles. In some cases, the secretion is configured to adhere the tissue adhesive to one or more layers of tissue to at least partially close a wound.

IMPRESSION ELEMENT FOR THE CREATION OF A SURGICAL GUIDE

According to an aspect of the invention there is provided a mouldable material carrier for use in producing an impression of a surgical site comprising: a base having a channel passing through the base between an inlet and an outlet; and a securing portion configured to secure a flexible sheet to the base around the outlet to cover the outlet such that, when mouldable material is urged through the inlet, the mouldable material is extruded out of the outlet and contained within a volume defined by the flexible sheet and the base, such that when the mouldable material carrier is urged against a surgical site, the mouldable material within the volume forms an impression of the surgical site without making contact with the surgical site.

ELECTRICALLY INSULATIVE ELECTRODE SPACERS, AND RELATED DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS

A method for making an electrode assembly comprises overlaying an electrode on an electrode support, the electrode comprising a plurality of openings extending at least partially through a thickness of the electrode; supporting the electrode support with a jaw body; stitching a filament made of electrically insulative material comprising a first inset segment and exposed segment into a first opening of the plurality of openings such that the first inset segment is positioned in the first opening and at least a portion of the exposed segment is positioned to overlie an exposed working surface of the electrode; and affixing at least an end portion of the first inset segment of the filament to the electrode, electrode support, and/or the jaw body.
