A converting machine is used to convert sheet material into packaging templates for assembly into boxes or other packaging. The converting machine includes a converting assembly that performs transverse conversion functions and longitudinal conversion functions on the sheet material to create the packaging templates. A fanfold crease sensing mechanism detects the presence and location of fanfold creases in the sheet material. Based on the location of the fanfold creases, the fanfold creases are either cut out of the sheet material, or the sheet material is cut to adjust the position of the fanfold crease in a packaging template.

The first wheel includes a knife and an element formed as a circular arc with substantially the same radius as the peripheral surface of the first wheel and a corresponding recess formed in the first wheel peripheral surface. The element is pivotally arranged around an axis substantially parallel to the first axis in the recess and the knife is extending from the element such that the position of the knife in relation to the first wheel is adjusted by pivoting the peripheral element by adjustment structure arranged to secure the peripheral element in the desired position. The phase adjustment device (24) is operable to adjust a speed of the continuous sheet (26) within the apparatus (10, 80) in order to adjust a phase of alternate parts of the continuous sheet (26) to be cut, printed or embossed by each anvil (14, 16) as it co-operates with the tool element (12).
