20210031996 · 2021-02-04 ·

In the preferred embodiments, the present invention provides substantially improved slit sheet cushioning products by advantageously combining novel paper properties with novel slit patterns for improved features and characteristics. In some illustrative and non-limiting example embodiments, cushioning products of the present invention can include, e.g., a novel slit sheet material in combination with extensible paper employed as, e.g., a cushioning pad or as cushioning within an envelope product, wherein the cushioning product can be substantially more resilient, but, yet, e.g., thinner for better utilization of space.

EXTENSIBLE PAPER AND ITS USE IN THE PRODUCTION OF EXPANDED SLIT PACKAGING WRAP AND VOID FILL PRODUCTS

An extensible slit sheet paper product is produced having an expandable slit pattern that forms open cells upon expansion of the paper product. The paper product is an extensible paper having an extensibility in the range from 1-9% in the machine direction and 1-5% in the cross direction. The expansion produces an array of hexagonal cells. The expanded extensible paper can be used to wrap an object for shipping by wrapping and cushioning the object in the expanded slit sheet material. The extensible, expandable slit sheet paper can be wrapped around itself to produce a void fill product.

INFORMATION HANDLING SYSTEM THIN WALL PACKAGING

Information handling system packaging is formed from extruded polyethylene cut to length, such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or high density polyethylene (HDPE), to define an interior coupling region that fits over the information handling system housing and an outer support region that forms an ellipse compressed by a container that accepts the information handling system housing. An opening seam formed along the entire length of the outer support region provides for deflection of the packaging to absorb acceleration forces generated by the information handling system.

SHEET PACKAGING

Sheet packaging has a corrugated ply bonded to a backing ply. The corrugated ply forms parallel flutes. The packaging comprises voids through both the corrugated ply and the backing ply at intervals along the flutes, thereby forming a plurality of insular portions interconnected by flexures. Each insular portion has a flute portion and a backing portion between adjacent voids and bonded together at respective edges and each flexure comprises bonded-together portions of the corrugated ply and the backing ply. The flexures confer hyper flexibility to the packaging wherein each flexure possesses an independent bend axis across which the flexure can both be twisted and bent.

Machine to produce twisted paper for loose fill packaging

A machine produces twisted paper for loose file packaging. The machine includes at least one auger to reduce a dimension, such as diameter, of paper as it is pulled from a roll. The material moves past the auger into a twisting assembly wherein the paper is twisted or rotated about a longitudinal axis of the machine inside a pipe or tube. The pipe or tube includes a cutout or interruption in the sidewall within which a wheel resides. The wheel grasps and advances the paper through the twisting assembly as it rotates. As the paper leaves the twisting assembly it is pulled or otherwise fed through an exist region and is cut into segments of small twisted pieces of paper. The twisted segments of paper are of suitable size for use as loose fill packaging.

Methods for packaging items and preparing packaging materials

A method of preparing a packaging laminate includes conveying a mesh of paper material having perforations against a rigid edge causing, at substantially each perforation, a mesh portion at the leading side to have an average elevation lower than that of a mesh portion on the trailing side of the perforation. The method includes expanding the perforations into cells separated from one another by legs interconnected by nodes defined in the mesh Top and bottom surfaces of the legs and nodes are reoriented from an initial orientation substantially parallel with a direction of conveyance of the mesh to an expanded orientation oblique to the direction of conveyance, such that, in the expanded orientation, the top surfaces of the nodes are substantially parallel with each other. The method includes attaching an outer liner to at least some of the bottom surfaces so as to form the packaging laminate.

DEVICE FOR MANUALLY OR MECHANICALLY PRODUCING A TUBULAR PACKAGING MATERIAL

A device for manually or mechanically producing a tubular packaging material of a paper web is wound to form a roll, which forms an internal cavity, from which the paper web can be drawn to form packaging material. The device includes a receptacle for at least partially circumferentially encompassing the roll and an axial holder for holding an end face of the roll. The axial holder has a wall, in which a dispensing opening for dispensing the packaging material in an axial dispensing direction is formed. The wall has an inner guide contour, which tapers in a funnel-like manner in the axial dispensing direction from the receptacle to the dispensing opening. The wall is provided with at least one front axial recess at a front end of the axial holder in the axial dispensing direction.

EMBOSSED PAPER IN COMBINATION WITH PAPER CUSHIONING FOR SHIPPING ENVELOPES

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF A CUSHION PRODUCT FROM A SINGLE- OR MULTI-LAYER CONTINUOUS PAPER STRIP

An apparatus for the production a cushion product from a single- or multi-layer continuous paper strip includes a feed unit for drawing the paper strip into the apparatus, a cutting unit for cutting the cushion product from the paper strip, and control electronics for the activation of the cutting unit according to a predetermined motion profile. A sensor captures a rotation angle position of the feed unit. The control electronics are configured to activate the feed unit continuously and to start an activation of the cutting unit for a discontinuous cutting operation during capturing a predetermined actual rotation angle position of the feed unit.
