Cushion Packages for Object Protection
A cushion package can be formed around an object. The object can be removed from and reinserted into the cushion package. The cushion package includes a cushion material (104) having a longitudinal length and two longitudinal edges (110). The two longitudinal edges (110) of the cushion material are folded into an overlapping position to form a tube of the cushion material. The cushion package includes first and second transverse seals (148,150) in the tube of the cushion material. The first and second transverse seals (148,150) respectively form first and second ends of the cushion package. Each of the first transverse seal and the second transverse seal (148,150) seals the cushion material with the two longitudinal edges (110) in the overlapping position. The two longitudinal edges (110) of the cushion material are uncoupled between the first transverse seal and the second transverse seal (148,150).
Air cushion machine and method
A method of producing air cushions with an air cushion machine for cushioning at least one item to be shipped in a box comprises the steps of determining a void volume defined by a difference between a volume of the box and a volume of the at least one item to be shipped in the box, and producing a quantity of air cushions with the air cushion machine having a total air cushion volume, the total air cushion volume being equal to the void volume.
HEATING DEVICE FOR A HEATING AND SEALING SYSTEM
A protective packaging formation device is disclosed herein. The device includes an inflation assembly that directs fluid between first and second overlapping plies of a web material. The device also includes a sealing mechanism that includes an arcuate web-support surface. The web-support surface includes a heater that defines a heating zone that is operable to heat the plies to create a longitudinal heat seal that seals the first and second plies together as the web is driven over the heating zone in a downstream direction. The web-support surface also includes a cooling zone disposed downstream of the heating zone operable to allow the heated plies to cool at the longitudinal heat seal as the web is driven over the heating zone in a downstream direction, such that the cooled longitudinal heat seal retains the fluid between the plies.
Crossed, staggered and stacked-type air packaging device, and manufacturing method therefor
The present invention provides a crossed staggered and stacked-type air packaging device and a manufacturing method therefor. The crossed staged and stacked-type air packaging device includes at least two inflation packaging main body layers, so as to form an accommodation cavity used for storing an article to be packaged. Each inflation packaging main body layer includes at least one sub-inflation unit. The sub-inflation units of at least two adjacent inflation packaging main body layers have different extending directions, so that at least two adjacent inflation packaging main body layers are arranged in a crossed and staggered manner.
Inflatable packaging with offset tear initiation features
An inflatable web is disclosed. The web includes a first film and second film ply sealed together via a plurality of generally transverse seals. The transverse seals define first and second inflatable chambers. The inflatable chambers are inflatable with, and contain, a fluid. The web defines a separation region extending at least partially between the first and second inflatable chambers in a substantially transverse direction across the web and configured to facilitate separation of the first and second inflatable chambers. The separation region includes a tear initiation feature that facilitates tearing of the web to separate the first and second inflatable chambers. The separation region includes a tear propagation line at least partially longitudinally offset from the tear initiation feature, and close enough to the tear initiation feature that force imparted to the web via the tear initiation feature will tear of the web through the tear propagation line.
Inflatable pouches
A supply of inflatable pouches includes an inflatable web defining a series of inflatable chambers, a longitudinal fold in the web such that the web is configured in the form of two juxtaposed inflatable panels joined together at the longitudinal fold, and a series of transverse seals that bond the panels together to form a series of inflatable pouches between pairs of the transverse seals.
Idler roller
An inflatable-cushion inflation and sealing device is provided. The device includes an inflation assembly that inflates with a fluid a cushion cavity disposed between overlapping portions of first and second plies of a film, which plies form a flexible structure. The device also includes a sealing mechanism having a first compression element having a curved surface operable to bend the flexible structure about a bend axis, a second compression element positioned such that the first and second compression elements are operable to receiving the flexible structure at a first pinch area in which the first compression element and the second compression element are positioned against the flexible structure to pinch the flexible structure, and a third compression element configured for receiving the flexible structure at a second pinch area in which the first compression element and the third compression element contact the flexible structure.
ON-DEMAND INFLATABLE PACKAGING
A method for converting a web of preformed pouches to on-demand inflatable packaging. The method may include moving the web along a path of travel, attaching an outer skin to the outside of the web, and packaging the web into a non-inflated and stored configuration. The method may also include moving the web along a path of travel, depositing at least one product into each of a plurality of the preformed pouches, and inflating each of the preformed pouches to form a cushioning material.
Standing-type air-filled packaging apparatus and manufacturing method therefor
A standing-type air-filled packaging apparatus and a manufacturing method therefor are provided. The apparatus includes an inflatable body and an inflation valve. The inflatable body includes multiple inflatable units that are formed by stacking together at least two layers of air chamber films and are connected with each other. The inflatable units are heat-sealed and bent to form an air-filled packaging apparatus provided with at least one accommodating chamber used for accommodating an item to be packaged. The inflation valve is mounted on the inflatable body to inflate the inflatable body. At least one distal side of the solid air-filled packaging apparatus forms an annular support part. When the air-filled packaging apparatus is inflated, the annular support part is suitable for standing on a surrounding surface, thus allowing the packaging apparatus to be in a firm standing state.
Web and method for making fluid filled units
A preformed web and a method of producing dunnage units from the preformed web. The web is an elongate flattened thermoplastic tube having an inflation edge and an opposite edge. The tube includes spaced transverse seals that define sides of pouches. The tube includes lines of perforations that allow adjacent dunnage units to be separated. A starting point of the lines of perforations is spaced apart from the inflation edge. The positions of the starting point of the lines of perforations with respect to the inflation edge is selected such that a cutter that cuts the inflation edge clears the line of perforations. Binding or wrinkling is therefore not caused by engagement of the cutter with the lines of perforations.
