A thermal insulation article includes a thermally insulating pad shaped to be positioned in a cavity of a rectangular prism shipping container. The pad includes a solid compostable panel formed primarily of starch and/or plant fiber pulp that holds together as a single unit, and a water-proof or water-resistant film forming a pocket enclosing the panel. The panel includes a first section, a second section, and a third section connecting the first section to the second section, the first and second section each having a central portion and two flaps that extend from the central portion beyond the third section, and wherein the panel is foldable into an open box.
BONDED STRUCTURE
A bonded structure includes a first bonded member having a first bonding surface, a second bonded member having a second bonding surface, and a bonding layer that bonds the first bonding surface and the second bonding surface. The bonding layer includes a stress relaxation layer containing a chain polymer, a first bonded molecular layer containing a first bonded molecule bonded to the first bonding surface, and a second bonded molecular layer containing a second bonded molecule bonded to the second bonding surface. A first end of the chain polymer is bonded to the first bonded molecule via a first binding molecule or without bonding via the first binding molecule. A second end of the chain polymer is bonded to the second bonded molecule via a second binding molecule or without bonding via the second binding molecule.
Ceramic Surface Modification Materials
Porous, binderless ceramic surface modification materials are described, and applications of use thereof. The ceramic surface material is in the form of an interconnected network of porous ceramic material on a substrate. The ceramic material may include a metal oxide, a metal hydroxide, and/or hydrates thereof, or a metal carbonate or metal phosphate, on a substrate surface. The substrate may be in the form of a metal or polymer particulate, powder, extrudate, or flakes.
DISPLAY DEVICES AND ARTICLES WITH COLOR-MATCHED DISPLAY AND NON-DISPLAY AREAS
A display device that includes: a glass substrate comprising a refractive index (n.sub.substrate); a display device structure coupled to the substrate to collectively define a viewing area; and a black mask structure surrounding the display device structure that is coupled to the substrate and comprises a black ink layer and at least one glossy layer between the black ink layer and the glass substrate. The viewing area is characterized by (a) a reflectance from 0.5% to 2.5% as measured at 8 degrees from normal in the visible spectrum, (b) a brightness in the CIE colorimetry system such that 5<L*<17 for the specular component included (SCI), and (c) a brightness in the CIE colorimetry system such that 0<L*<3 for the specular component excluded (SCE). Further, the at least one glossy layer comprises a refractive index (n.sub.glossy) such that |n.sub.glossy−n.sub.substrate|>0.1.
LAMINATE STRUCTURE
A laminate structure is disclosed including a fibre laminate impregnated with a laminate matrix material, and a veil of carbon nanotubes impregnated with a veil matrix material. The laminate matrix material and the veil matrix material doped with carbon particles. The veil provides lightning strike protection. The structure is manufactured by co-curing the laminate matrix material and the veil matrix material to bond the veil of carbon nanotubes to the fibre laminate.
Electronic device having a curved surface
An electronic device is provided. The electronic device includes a back frame, a panel disposed on the back frame, a protective substrate disposed on the panel, and an adhesive element disposed on a portion of the back frame. The back frame and the protective substrate adhere to each other via the adhesive element.
PISTON INCLUDING A COMPOSITE LAYER APPLIED TO METAL SUBSTRATE
A piston for a heavy duty diesel engine including a composite layer forming at least a portion of a combustion surface is provided. The composite layer has a thickness greater than 500 microns and includes a mixture of components typically used to form brake pads, such as a thermoset resin, an insulating component, strengthening fibers, and an impact toughening additive. According to one example, the thermoset resin is a phenolic resin, the insulating component is a ceramic, the strengthening fibers are graphite, and the impact toughening additive is an aramid pulp of fibrillated chopped synthetic fibers. The composite layer also has a thermal conductivity of 0.8 to 5 W/m.Math.K. The body portion of the piston can include an undercut scroll thread to improve mechanical locking of the composite layer. The piston can also include a ceramic insert between the body portion and the composite layer.
