Assemblies of Functionalized Textile Materials and Methods of Use Thereof
Assemblies of stacked layers of materials are described. The assemblies include functional and structural layers. Functional layers include binderless ceramic materials on woven or non-woven substrates of natural, synthetic, or metallic materials. The layers of functional and structural materials may be configured to transport moisture or heat from an inner surface to an outer surface that is exposed to an ambient environment.
DOUBLE JACKETED, HIGH TEMPERATURE FIRE HOSE
An attack fire hose capable of withstanding radiant and convective heating without leakage or degradation of performance for significant periods of time is disclosed. The hose includes a woven aramid blend of fibers in the outer jacket, and a rubber-like material layer is extruded through the weave of an inner nylon/polyester jacket that is fitted within the woven outer jacket. The resultant hose retains a double jacketed construction with exceptional thermal performance.
High-temperature insulation for thermally insulating pipes
A high-temperature insulation for thermally insulating pipes includes a carrier layer, wound helically to form a tubular main body and has four or more windings, and has three or more different insulating layers. The inner winding circumferentially surrounds the inner cavity of the tubular main body. The circumference of the inner cavity is at least 50 mm. The insulating layers are arranged in the gaps between the windings of the carrier layer and contact the carrier layer both radially inwardly and radially outwardly. The insulating layers are arranged in the carrier layer have, along the circular path specified by the winding, a length that corresponds to at least 80% of the circumference of the inner cavity of the tubular main body. The carrier layer, the first insulating layer, the second insulating layer, and the third insulating layer each consist of different materials and/or thermal conductivities and/or temperature resistances.
Shock and impact resistant structures
Described herein are details for designing and manufacturing enhanced shock and impact resistant helicoidal lay-ups by combining nanomaterials, variable pitch and partial spirals, Thin unidirectional fiber plies, hybrid materials, and/or curved fibers within a ply. The helicoidal structures created in the prescribed manners can be tuned and pitched to desired wavelengths to dampen propagating shock waves initiated by ballistics, strike forces or foreign material impacts and can arrest the propagation of fractures including catastrophic fractures. These enhancements open the helicoidal technology up for use in such applications as consumer products, protective armor, sporting equipment, crash protection devices, wind turbine blades, cryogenic tanks, pressure vessels, battery casings, automotive/aerospace components, construction materials, and other composite products.
Double jacketed, high temperature fire hose
An attack fire hose capable of withstanding radiant and convective heating without leakage or degradation of performance for significant periods of time is disclosed. The hose includes a woven aramid blend of fibers in the outer jacket, and a nitrile rubber layer is extruded through the weave of an inner nylon/polyester jacket that is fitted within the woven outer jacket. The resultant hose retains a double jacketed construction with exceptional thermal performance.
FOLDABLE ENCLOSURE MEMBERS JOINED BY HINGED I-BEAM
An enclosure member for a building structure comprising a planar laminate having a first facing layer; a layer of foam having a first face and a second opposing face; and a second facing layer; where the first facing layer is fastened to the first face of the layer of foam, and the second facing layer is fastened to the second opposing face of the layer of foam. An edge of the enclosure is provided with a perimeter structure that can perform one or more of a sealing function, an edge reinforcement function and a pivotable joining function with another enclosure, in accordance with the particular embodiment.
FOLDABLE ENCLOSURE MEMBERS JOINED BY HINGED PERIMETER SECTIONS
An enclosure member for a building structure comprising a planar laminate having a first facing layer; a layer of foam having a first face and a second opposing face; and a second facing layer; where the first facing layer is fastened to the first face of the layer of foam, and the second facing layer is fastened to the second opposing face of the layer of foam. An edge of the enclosure is provided with a perimeter structure that can perform one or more of a sealing function, an edge reinforcement function and a pivotable joining function with another enclosure, in accordance with the particular embodiment.
Enclosure Component Perimeter Structures
An enclosure member for a building structure comprising a planar laminate having a first facing layer; a layer of foam having a first face and a second opposing face; and a second facing layer; where the first facing layer is fastened to the first face of the layer of foam, and the second facing layer is fastened to the second opposing face of the layer of foam. An edge of the enclosure is provided with a perimeter structure that can perform one or more of a sealing function, an edge reinforcement function and a pivotable joining function with another enclosure, in accordance with the particular embodiment.
SOUND ABSORBING AND INSULATING STRUCTURE
A sound absorbing and insulating member alternately brought into contact with a first partition member and a second partition member. The sound absorbing and insulating member has a plurality of hollow protrusions protruding so as to traverse a gap between the partition members. There is a first and second space between the first and second partition member. The first space is formed in each protrusion and is closed by the first partition member. The second space is provided between adjacent protrusions and is closed by the second partition member. The first and second spaces communicate with each other through a communication part formed as a part of the protrusion. The communication part is configured to communicate an inside of the protrusion with an outside. An opening of the communication part opened to the second space is provided at a side wall of the protrusion.
