Method for tailoring dialysis treatment based on sensed potassium concentration in blood serum or dialysate

A method of dialysis is provided that includes sensing the concentration of potassium in a patient's blood serum, in used dialysate resulting from treating the patient, or in both. The method involves generating a sensed value of the concentration of potassium, comparing the sensed value with one or more values stored in a memory, and generating a control signal based on the comparison. Supplemental potassium solution is infused into the treatment dialysate, based on the control signal. The comparison can be made to patient-historical data, population data, or both.

Disclosed herein are methods, systems, and devices for controlling a gas mixture within a mechanical ventilator. According to one embodiment, a computer implemented method includes receiving first peripheral arterial oxygen saturation (SpO.sub.2) data from a pulse oximeter via a pulse oximeter interface, wherein the pulse oximeter is configured to monitor a patient receiving invasive ventilation; determining a first mode of operation for a ventilator mechanism, wherein the ventilator mechanism is configured to provide at least a portion of the invasive ventilation; determining first partial pressure of oxygen (PaO.sub.2) data stored in a first lookup table using the first SpO.sub.2 data, wherein the first lookup table is derived from a sigmoid shaped oxyhemoglobin dissociation curve; determining first fraction of inspired oxygen in air (FiO.sub.2) data for setting a mixture in a gas blender in the ventilator mechanism based on the first PaO.sub.2 data and a variable offset; and providing the FiO.sub.2 data to the ventilator mechanism.

Initial total daily insulin setting for user onboarding

Disclosed are techniques to establish initial settings for an automatic insulin delivery device. An adjusted total daily insulin (TDI) factor usable to calculate a TDI dosage may be determined. The adjusted TDI factor may be a TDI per unit of a physical characteristic of the user (e.g., weight) times a reduction factor. The adjusted TDI factor may be compared to a maximum algorithm delivery threshold. Based on the comparison result, the application or algorithm may set a TDI dosage and output a control signal. Blood glucose measurement values may be collected from a sensor over a period of time. A level of glycated hemoglobin of the blood may be determined based on the obtained blood glucose measurement values. In response to the level of glycated hemoglobin, the set TDI dosage may be modified. A subsequent control signal including the modified TDI dosage may be output to actuate delivery of insulin.

The safety and reliability of drug delivery systems are improved by the use of smartphones for calculating safety critical delivery parameters. A drug delivery device is adapted to perform a drug delivery operation based on an unconfirmed drug delivery instructions determined by a processing unit of a control device by applying a basic mathematic operation to control device input data. The drug delivery device comprises a communication module to receive, from the control device, the basic mathematic operation and the control device input data, and a redundancy module to determine a redundant drug delivery instructions by applying the basic mathematic operation to the control device input data received from the control device. The drug delivery device is adapted to prevent execution of the drug delivery operation if the unconfirmed drug delivery instructions and the redundant drug delivery instructions are found, by a comparator module, to conflict.
