CRYOGENIC STORAGE TANK, AIRCRAFT WITH A CRYOGENIC STORAGE TANK AND METHOD FOR FORMING A HYBRID METAL POLYMER JOINT
A cryogenic storage tank including a first metallic end piece having a first structured connection area on its outer surface, a second metallic end piece having a second structured connection area on its outer surface, a hollow body extending between the first structured connection area and the second structured area. The hollow body is formed of a fiber reinforced polymer-based composite, a first metallic clamp having a third structured connection area and a second metallic clamp having a fourth structured connection area. The hollow body is arranged between and in intimate contact with the first structured connection area of the first metallic end piece and with the third structured connection area of the first metallic clamp and is arranged between and in intimate contact with the second structured connection area of the second metallic end piece and with the fourth structured connection area of the second metallic clamp.
COMPOSITE COVER AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE COVER
A composite cover includes a generally rectangular main portion having four main portion edges about a perimeter of the main portion and having opposing top and bottom surfaces defining respective upward and downward directions, and four generally rectangular side portions each contiguous with and extending downward from a respective one of the main portion edges. The main portion and the four side portions generally enclose an interior space and are made of a sandwich structure comprising an interior layer of continuous fiber reinforcements and resin and an exterior layer of metallic foil bonded to the interior layer. A method of manufacturing the cover, having a desired shape generally of a five-walled open box, includes attaching a formed sheet made of metallic foil and having the desired shape onto a shaped composite preform disposed in the desired shape, wherein the shaped composite preform is made of continuous fiber reinforcements and resin.
Method of making marine decking
A marine deck member with enhanced surface traction and the process for forming the same. The marine deck member comprises a sandwich-type composite panel made by a compression molding process. In such a process, the panel is made by subjecting a heated stack of layers of material to cold-pressing in a mold. The cellular core has a 2-D array of cells, each of the cells having an axis substantially perpendicular to the outer surfaces, and extending in the space between the layers or skins, with end faces open to the respective layers or skins. The surface traction of this type of composite panel can be enhanced for marine deck applications by controlled debossing, or embossing, of the first skin while it cools in the compression mold. The debossing effect can be effected by applying pressurized gas, e.g., pressurized air, onto the outer surface of the first skin while in the compression mold. The embossing can be effected by applying vacuum pressure on the outer surface of the first skin while in the compression mold.
HYBRID-LAYERED APPARATUS AND BULLETPROOF STRUCTURE HAVING THE SAME
A hybrid-layered apparatus for a bulletproof structure includes a viscous absorber layer, a first elastic layer, a viscous-elastic foundation layer, and a second elastic layer, orderly arranged in a lamination manner The viscous absorber layer contains a semi-liquid viscous material. The first elastic layer, laminated fixedly to the viscous absorber layer, has a first predetermined toughness. The viscous-elastic foundation layer, laminated fixedly to the first elastic layer by opposing the viscous absorber layer, has predetermined elasticity and compressibility. The second elastic layer, laminated fixedly to the viscous-elastic foundation layer by opposing the first elastic layer, has a second predetermined toughness. In addition, the first predetermined toughness is higher than the second predetermined toughness.
Conductive paper for making electroactive surface in construction
A building construction product with an electroconductive surface, the building construction product comprising a core with one or more surfaces covered by an electroconductive paper comprising carbon fibers, the electroconductive paper being attached to the one or more surfaces of the core. Methods and materials for producing the building construction products with an electroconductive surface and products and methods for shielding an area from electromagnetic waves.
Method and apparatus for rapid continuous consolidation of thermoplastic components
A method and structure for processing a plurality of prepreg sheets includes a conveyor assembly having a first conveyor, a second conveyor, and a processing zone positioned between the first and second conveyors. In an implementation, a plurality of prepreg sheets are advanced from a plurality of material supply creels into the processing zone by a first conveyor and a second conveyor turning in opposite directions. Within the processing zone, a compressive pressure is applied to the prepreg sheets by first pressure plates attached to first conveyor and second pressure plates attached to the second conveyor. A thermoplastic within the prepreg sheets is melted within the processing zone by a heater to consolidate the prepreg sheets into a consolidated laminate.
Structural and decorative composite material, preparation method therefor, and article containing same
Provided are a composite material and a preparation method therefor. The composite material comprises: a base layer; a first plant fibre fabric located on the upper surface of the base layer; optionally, a second plant fibre fabric located on the lower surface of the base layer; and resins present in each layer. The composite material has a decorative performance and an improved mechanical performance.
Systems and methods for accelerated conditioning of composite core sandwich coupons
In an example, a method for accelerated conditioning of a composite core sandwich coupon is described. The method includes setting a first temperature and a first relative humidity level of the conditioning apparatus, wherein a combination of the first temperature and the first relative humidity level correspond to a desired relative humidity level of the plurality of cells of the core layer at room temperature. The method includes maintaining the first temperature and the first relative humidity for a first period, wherein during the first period a core humidity of the plurality of cells in the core layer approaches the first relative humidity level. The method includes determining that the core humidity has reached the first relative humidity level. The method includes, based on determining that the core humidity has reached the first relative humidity level, adjusting the first temperature to a second temperature.
Lamination process and using coated fiber cores to create an adhesive layer and/or a reinforcement layer
The invention includes a method of providing an intermediary layer in a laminated structure, between two adjacent layers, where the intermediary layer contains a fiber having an extrusion coating. The intermediary layer may form a textile constructed from the fibers, the intermediary layer, when the lamination method proceeds, provides the adhesion between the adjacent layers, as well as reinforcement for the laminated structure.
