Methods of treating fibers comprising a polymer including at least one of a vinyl acetate moiety or a vinyl alcohol moiety, and resulting fibers or the products comprising the resulting fibers are disclosed. In an example embodiment, a fiber having a surface region and an interior region, includes a polymer comprising at least one of a vinyl acetate moiety or a vinyl alcohol moiety chemically modified with a modification agent. The fiber has a transverse cross-section including the interior region comprising the polymer having a first degree of modification and the surface region comprising the polymer having a second degree of modification greater than the first degree of modification.

CARPET WITH REINFORCED NONWOVEN PRIMARY BACKING

Provided is a carpet comprising a textile top member, which includes carpet yarns and a nonwoven primary backing that is coupled with the carpet yarns so that the primary backing structurally supports the carpet yarns. The nonwoven primary backing includes reinforcement fibers deposed in the nonwoven primary backing. The reinforcement fibers are configured to mechanically reinforce and stabilize the carpet yarns. A secondary backing is coupled with the textile top member via a thermoplastic material. The carpet can be a carpet tile or a carpet rug.

Provided is a carpet comprising a textile top member, which includes carpet yarns and a nonwoven primary backing that is coupled with the carpet yarns so that the primary backing structurally supports the carpet yarns. The nonwoven primary backing has a layered configuration of fibers where the average fiber diameters of the fibers in one layer differs from the average fiber diameter in the layer or layers adjacent thereto. The layers are configured to mechanically reinforce and stabilize the carpet yarns. A secondary backing is coupled with the textile top member via a thermoplastic material. The carpet can be a carpet tile or a carpet rug.

MULTILAYER COMPOSITE WITH NONWOVEN TOUGHENING

Embodiments of the present disclosure am directed to multilayer thermoset composites which comprise a first fabric reinforcement layer, a nonwoven fabric, and a second fabric reinforcement layer. The nonwoven fabric may be positioned between the first fabric reinforcement layer and the second fabric reinforcement layer. A thermoset resin may at least partially permeate the first fabric reinforcement layer, the nonwoven fabric, and the second fabric reinforcement layer. The thermoset resin may be an epoxy, unsaturated polyester, or polyurethane. The first and second fabric reinforcement layer may each comprise one or more of glass fiber, carbon fiber, polyaramid fiber, polyethylene fiber, or basalt fiber. The nonwoven fabric may be formed from bicomponent fibers having a sheath/core configuration. The sheath may be formed from ethylene-carboxylic acid copolymers, or ionomers of ethylene-carboxylic acid copolymers. Further embodiments include methods of making the multilayer thermoset composite.

Multi-layer, biodegradable composites for air filtration

The present disclosure relates to multi-layer composite articles including at least two nonwoven web layers. Each or the layers may be a spunbonded web, and each may include biodegradable materials. The multi-layered composites of the present disclosure are particularly well suited for air filtration, as they can combine a high dust holding capacity with sufficient strength, dimensional stability, and a relatively low pressure drop.

METHOD OF MAKING A SPUNBONDED LAMINATE

A laminate is made of a spunbonded nonwoven laminate, by first making first and second spunbonded nonwoven layers of which at least one has crimped bicomponent filaments having a first component based on polypropylene and a second component based on polypropylene. Then at least one spunbonded nonwoven layer is preconsolidated, and finally the first and second spunbonded nonwoven layers are finally consolidated into the spunbonded nonwoven laminate by at least one calender roller such that the laminate has a specific density dependent on its surface density and below a density limit ?.sub.G according to the equation

[00001] ? G = 9 cm - 1 H surface density g / cm 2 + 0.0393 g / cm 3 .

PROCESS TO REGENERATE WOVEN AND KNIT FABRIC AND PRODUCT THEREFROM
