Inherently secured aerogel composites

Embodiments of the present invention describe secured fiber-reinforced aerogels and laminate structures formed therefrom. In one embodiment a laminate comprises at least one fiber-reinforced aerogel layer adjacent to at least one layer of fiber containing material wherein fibers from said at least one fiber-reinforced aerogel layer are interlaced with fibers of said at least one fiber-containing material. In another embodiment a laminate comprises at least two adjacent fiber-reinforced aerogel layers wherein fibers from at least one fiber-reinforced aerogel layer are interlaced with fibers of an adjacent fiber-reinforced aerogel layer.

ENERGY EFFICIENT SOUNDPROOFING WINDOW RETROFITS

Described herein are window retrofits including a monolithic silica aerogel slab having (i) an average haze value of <5% as calculated in accordance with ASTM standard D1003-13 and (ii) a U-factor of <0.5 BTU/sf/hr/° F., and a transparent polymer envelope sealed at an internal pressure of ≤1 atmosphere, wherein the monolithic silica aerogel slab is encapsulated in the transparent polymer envelope. The monolithic aerogel slab can have a transmittance >94% at 8 mm thickness. The window retrofit can be bonded to a glass sheet.

COMPOSITE MATERIAL VEHICLE COMPONENT CONSTRUCT

A vehicle component construct including a panel formed of a composite sandwich material. The composite sandwich material including an open area core defining a plurality of pores, a high gloss surface sheet adhered to a first face of the open area core by a first adhesive layer, and a structural skin adhered to a second face of the open area core by a second adhesive layer. The exterior surface of the panel being defined by the high gloss surface sheet of the composite sandwich panel material and the oppositely opposed interior surface of the panel being defined by the structural skin of the composite sandwich material. The vehicle component construct being suitable for use as a body section of a vehicle.

Protective packaging membranes as integrated layer in building system components

Building materials such as structural panels, beams, roof decking, and flooring panels, are packaged within a protective layer including a sublayer of a polymeric material that can be applied at the factory. The protective layer protects the underlying building materials from exposure to weather and potential damage due to handling during shipping, at a job site, and which can be left in place during construction, thus eliminating the need for temporary protective measures covering the building materials. The protective layer may have additional properties such as breathability, fire resistance, and sound absorption. The protective layer also may provide an underlayment such as for flooring and roofing.
