HARD COATING, CUTTING TOOL, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING HARD COATING

A hard coating includes two first crystalline phases, and a second crystalline phase disposed between the two first crystalline phases. The two first crystalline phases each include, independently, a laminate structure having a Ti.sub.1-x1Al.sub.x1N phase having a sodium chloride-type crystal structure, and an Al.sub.x2Ti.sub.1-x2N phase having a sodium chloride-type crystal structure that are alternately stacked. An Al composition ratio x1 of the Ti.sub.1-x1Al.sub.x1N phase satisfies a relationship 0.5x10.75, and an Al composition ratio x2 of the Al.sub.x2Ti.sub.1-x2N phase satisfies a relationship 0.75<x20.95. The laminate structure includes a region in which an Al concentration periodically changes along a stacking direction of the Ti.sub.1-x1Al.sub.x1N phase and the Al.sub.x2Ti.sub.1-x2N phase. In this region, a difference between a maximum value of the Al composition ratio x2 and a minimum value of the Al composition ratio x1 is greater than 0.25. The second crystalline phase contains AlN having a wurtzite-type crystal structure.

Cleaning pad having preferred performance with scrubbing strip

A cleaning pad for absorbing liquids from a hard, target surface. In one embodiment the cleaning pad comprises a pad having a floor sheet, and a core joined to the floor sheet. The floor sheet has a combination of polymeric synthetic fibers and natural cellulose fibers. A cleaning strip is joined to the outwardly facing surface of the floor sheet. The cleaning pad provides both good absorbency and a coefficient of friction falling within a specified range judged advantageous for cleaning. The absorbency and coefficient of friction work well with an amine oxide cleaning solution.

A thermal insulation article includes a thermally insulating pad shaped to be positioned in a cavity of a rectangular prism shipping container. The pad includes a solid compostable panel formed primarily of starch and/or plant fiber pulp that holds together as a single unit, and a water-proof or water-resistant film forming a pocket enclosing the panel. The panel includes a first section, a second section, and a third section connecting the first section to the second section, the first and second section each having a central portion and two flaps that extend from the central portion beyond the third section, and wherein the panel is foldable into an open box.

Disposable towel produced with large volume surface depressions

A disposable tissue or paper towel product including at least two plies, an exposed outer surface of at least one of the two plies comprising a plurality of pockets, the plurality of pockets having an average volume greater than 0.4 mm.sup.3 and an average surface area of 2.5 mm.sup.2, wherein the product is formed using a structured fabric with both a left handed and right handed twill pattern that reverses itself periodically.

Organ model

Provided is an organ model having a property such that each layer suitably peels off, a property such that sliding or a sense of catching is present besides a sense of elasticity that is felt when a surgical knife cuts the organ model open, and a property such that ligation can be performed without burying of a suture thread, and a property such that a knot of the thread gets caught on the organ model. An organ model being a laminated body in which plural layers each formed of a hydrogel material are laminated, and one or more of the layers is each a fiber group-containing layer in which fiber groups are approximately continuously present inside the layer and over the plane of the layer.

DENSIFIED FOAM FOR THERMAL INSULATION IN ELECTRONIC DEVICES

A heat spreading and insulating material using densified foam is provided that has a heat spreading layer that is adhered to an insulating layer. The material is designed to be used with mobile devices that generate heat adjacent to heat sensitive components. The insulating layer is formed from a compressed layer of polyimide foam to increase its density. The polyimide foam retains a significant amount of insulating properties through the densification process. In some embodiments, an EMI shielding layer is added to improve electrical properties of the device. The heat spreading layer may be a graphite material with heat conducting properties that preferentially conduct heat in-plane but can also be metal foil or other isotropic heat conducting material. The material may also include pressure sensitive layers to permanently apply the material to the mobile device.

Method and apparatus for taped interlayer flow cell with masking

A flow cell incorporates a first substrate with a metal layer on one surface. A tape layer having flow channels is adhered to the first substrate. A second substrate having a second metal layer on one surface is adhered to the tape layer opposite the first substrate. At least one of the first and second metal layers includes mating cutouts to at least partially expose the flow channels.

FLOORING MAT WITH ENTANGLED FILAMENT STRUCTURE

A flooring mat that includes a first layer that includes a vapor barrier, a second layer that includes a textile pad, and a third layer having an entangled filament structure. The second layer is disposed between the first layer and the third layer. The flooring mat may be provided between a subfloor and a surface layer of a flooring structure.
