Plaster boards having internal layers and methods for making them

Disclosed herein are plaster boards that include first and second layers of hardened plaster material, a liner attached to the first layer of hardened plaster material, and a first material (e.g., a polymer material such as a viscoelastic polymer) adhered between the liner and the second layer of hardened plaster material. The liner includes one or more structurally weakened regions each extending substantially from a first edge to a second opposing edge of the plaster board. The structurally weakened regions of the liner may facilitate creation of a fissure that propagates substantially within a plane within the plaster board. Methods for making the plaster boards may involve drying wet plaster material while it is in contact with a liner having structurally weakened regions, processing a liner to form its structurally weakened regions while in contact with wet plaster material, or processing a liner to form its structurally weakened regions while in contact with hardened plaster material.

Multi-layer visor system for surgical hood

A multi-layer visor system for a surgical hood or garment is provided. The system includes a base film layer and one or more removable film layers that are coextruded at high temperature to form a sterile surface between each of the film layers should the surgeon elect to peel away a soiled or splattered removable film layer during the course of a surgical procedure so that an unobstructed view can be maintained. Thus, no separate sterilization step is required in order to sterilize the layers of the visor system. Each of the removable film layers can additionally include a tab having distinctive features in order to enable a wearer to easily distinguish between the tabs in order to make it easier for a wearer to know which tab to pull first to remove the outermost removable film layer. Further, because the tabs are located about the perimeter of the removable films, viewing is not obscured, yet the film layers are held securely in place until easily removed from the underlying removable film layer or base film layer.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR THERMALLY ADAPTIVE MATERIALS

An adaptive textile that includes a plurality of a first fiber having a first expansion coefficient and a plurality of a second fiber having a second expansion coefficient. There is a difference between the expansion coefficient of the first fiber and the expansion coefficient of the second fiber; at least one of the first or second fibers is a twisted coil actuator; and linear displacement of the twisted coil actuator causes the adaptive textile to bend.

COMPOSTABLE INSULATION FOR SHIPPING CONTAINER

A thermal insulation article includes a thermally insulating pad shaped to be positioned in a cavity of a rectangular prism shipping container. The pad includes a solid compostable panel formed primarily of starch and/or plant fiber pulp that holds together as a single unit, and a water-proof or water-resistant film forming a pocket enclosing the panel. The panel includes a first section, a second section, and a third section connecting the first section to the second section, the first and second section each having a central portion and two flaps that extend from the central portion beyond the third section, and wherein the panel is foldable into an open box.

White, conformable films for pressure-sensitive-labeling applications

A squeezable, white polypropylene film is disclosed having a novel balance of conformability, stiffness, modulus, opacity, and whiteness. The film includes an ABCBA structure having a core layer of polypropylene resin with an elastomeric copolymer and a cavitating agent. Two intermediate layers of polypropylene resin are present on either side, the intermediate layers optionally including an elastomeric copolymer and a pigmenting agent. Two polymer skin layers surround the two intermediate layers. The resins are co-extruded into a biaxially oriented film having a thickness between 40 to 70 pm for use in pressure-sensitive labeling applications.

Polymer modified asphalt roofing material

A shingle coating asphalt composition is provided that is produced from a paving grade asphalt. The asphalt composition comprises a paving-grade asphalt that has been modified with one or more polymer additives; and a secondary additive comprising one or more of a viscosity reducing agent, a wax, a salt of a fatty acid ester, and an amide of a fatty acid. The shingle coating asphalt coating composition is used to make a shingle. The shingle includes a substrate, the asphalt, and roofing granules.

MULTILAYER FILMS AND ARTICLES COMPRISING MULTILAYER FILMS

Embodiments of the present invention relate to multilayer films, bags, and other articles. In one aspect, a multilayer film comprises a first skin layer having an overall density of less than or equal to 0.912 g/cm.sup.3; a second skin layer having an overall density of less than or equal to 0.912 g/cm.sup.3; and a core positioned between the skin layers, wherein the core has an overall density that is at least 0.01 g/cm.sup.3 greater than then overall density of the first skin layer, wherein the overall density of the multilayer film is from 0.905 to 0.930 g/cm.sup.3, wherein the film has a bending stiffness of 1.35 mN.Math.mm or less when the film has a thickness of 2 mils (50.8 microns), wherein the film exhibits a Gelbo flex crack performance of 2 pinholes or less in 20,000 cycles, and wherein the film comprises at least 95% by weight polyethylene based on the total weight of the film.

Hard coat laminated film

According to at least one embodiment, there is provided a hard coat laminated film, including, from a surface layer side, a second hard coat, a first hard coat, and a transparent resin film layer, where the first hard coat and the transparent resin film layer are laminated directly, where the first hard coat is formed of a coating material including: (A) 100 parts by mass of a polyfunctional (meth)acrylate; and (B) 1 to 100 parts by mass of an N-substituted (meth)acrylamide compound, where the second hard coat is formed of a coating material containing no inorganic particles, and where the transparent resin film is a transparent multilayer film or a transparent monolayer film made of a poly(meth)acrylimide resin, where the transparent multilayer film includes a surface layer made of a poly(meth)acrylimide resin, the first hard coat being formed on the surface layer.

Flexible balsa wood panel, a rotor blade, a wind turbine and a method

A flexible balsa wood panel for a rotor blade of a wind turbine, including a plurality of balsa wood modules and a polymer film which is attached to a surface of each balsa wood module to connect the balsa wood modules together is provided. The flexible balsa wood panel has the following advantages. An adhesion area of the polymer film is significantly larger than that of a glass fiber mesh. This in turn reduces the risk of balsa wood modules falling off during handling the flexible balsa wood panel. A polymer film with a high melting temperature relative to a maximum blade curing temperature can be selected in order to avoid curing process induced delaminations. Furthermore, due to the polymer film attached to the first surface, a more uniform adhesion may be achieved compared to a currently used glass fiber mesh.
