A multilayer thermoplastic article blended with hydrolytically unstable polymers and a material component for improved recyclability. The multilayer thermoplastic article having an inner layer being made of a thermoplastic material, an outer layer being made of a thermoplastic material, and an intermediate layer disposed between the inner layer and the outer layer. The intermediate layer is made of a blended material comprising 50 to 99 wt. % of a hydrolytically unstable polymer and 1 to 50 wt. % of the material component selected from the group consisting of an oxygen scavenger, an oxidizable organic polymer, a passive barrier material, Iron, Ascorbic Acid, and potassium sulfite.

WATER-DISPERSIBLE AND BIODEGRADABLE FILMS FOR THE PACKAGING OF LIQUIDS AND MOISTURE-SENSITIVE MATERIALS

The presently disclosed subject matter is generally directed to a packaging film constructed from water-dispersible and/or biodegradable compositions. Particularly, the disclosed film comprises a first layer constructed from one or more water-dispersible materials, such as water-dispersible paper. The film further comprises a second layer constructed from one or more biodegradable materials, such as poly(hydroxyalkanoate). The first and second layers can be constructed to form a packaging material used to enclose a wide variety of products, including liquids and moisture-sensitive solids. Advantageously, the disclosed film (and associated packaging materials) are dissolvable in water and/or biodegrade when exposed to landfill conditions and/or water.

There is provided a resin composition, comprising an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer and a nonionic surfactant, wherein the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer has an ethylene unit content of 15 to 60 mol %, and a saponification degree of 90 mol % or more; the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer is contained as a major component; and the nonionic surfactant is contained at 3 to 400 ppm. The resin composition is produced by melt-kneading a mixture comprising the nonionic surfactant, water and the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer. By using the resin composition thus produced, a discharge amount during melt molding can be increased and a molded article with an excellent appearance can be provided.

A biodegradable laminate includes: an aliphatic polyester-based resin layer; a bonding layer; and a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin layer laminated on at least one surface of the aliphatic polyester-based resin layer with the bonding layer therebetween. The aliphatic polyester-based resin layer includes an aliphatic polyester-based resin composition containing an aliphatic polyester-based resin (A) including a repeating unit derived from an aliphatic diol and a repeating unit derived from an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid as main constituent units, a polyhydroxyalkanoate (B) including a 3-hydroxybutyrate unit as a main constituent unit, and an inorganic filler (C).
