Preparation and use of ginsentides and ginsentide-like peptides
The present invention relates to the methods of solid-phase peptide synthesis or recombinant production of ginsentide or ginsentide-like peptides or salts thereof. Further provided are uses of the ginsentide or ginsentide-like peptides or salts thereof as α1-adrenergic receptor antagonists and vasorelaxants, nitric oxide-boosting agents, anti-thrombotic agents, anti-atherosclerotic agents, as protective agents against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity, anti-ageing and adaptogenic agents, nutraceuticals, health supplements, or cosmetic ingredients.
Synthesis of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids by recombinant cells
The present invention relates to methods of synthesizing long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially eicosapentaenoic acid, docosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid, in recombinant cells such as yeast or plant cells. Also provided are recombinant cells or plants which produce long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a group of new enzymes which possess desaturase or elongase activity that can be used in methods of synthesizing long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids.
Nanospheres of SEC14-like proteins and cognate ligands
The present invention relates to a nanosphere comprising an equal number of a human SEC14-like protein and a cognate ligand of said SEC14-like protein as well as to methods of producing the same and uses of said nanospheres.
Nanospheres of SEC14-like proteins and cognate ligands
The present invention relates to a nanosphere comprising an equal number of a human SEC14-like protein and a cognate ligand of said SEC14-like protein as well as to methods of producing the same and uses of said nanospheres.
DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS CONTAINING PROBIOTICS
Dietary supplements comprising at least one probiotic and at least one of animal digest, dried brewers yeast, vitamin C; vitamin E, beta carotene, zinc proteinate, manganese proteinate, ferrous sulfate, copper proteinate, calcium iodate, and sodium selenite. The probiotics and other ingredients are present in the supplement in amounts sufficient to enhance the palatability of the probiotics and compositions containing the probiotics, enhance the immune system to augment the beneficial effects of the probiotics, or extend the life of the probiotics.
ERYTHROPOIETIN AND FIBRONECTIN COMPOSITIONS FOR THERAPEUTIC AND COSMETIC APPLICATIONS
A method of promoting wound healing or connective tissue reconstruction and a method of treating ischemia in a subject in need thereof are disclosed. The methods comprising topically administering to the subject about 10-30 mg per cm.sup.2 wound tissue of Erythropoietin and about 100-300 mg per cm.sup.2 wound tissue of Fibronectin, thereby promoting wound healing or connective tissue reconstruction or treating ischemia in the subject. Unit dosage forms, pharmaceutical compositions, cosmetic compositions and formulations comprising Erythropoietin and/or Fibronectin are also disclosed.
CROSSLINKED CATION EXCHANGE POLYMERS, COMPOSITIONS AND USE IN TREATING HYPERKALEMIA
The present invention is directed to crosslinked cation exchange polymers comprising a fluoro group and an acid group, pharmaceutical compositions of these polymers, compositions of a linear polyol and a salt of such polymer. Crosslinked cation exchange polymers having beneficial physical properties, including combinations of particle size, particle shape, particle size distribution, viscosity, yield stress, compressibility, surface morphology, and/or swelling ratio are also described. These polymers and compositions are useful to bind potassium in the gastrointestinal tract.
EICOSAPENTAENOIC ACID-PRODUCING MICROORGANISMS, FATTY ACID COMPOSITIONS, AND METHODS OF MAKING AND USES THEREOF
The present invention is directed to isolated microorganisms as well as strains and mutants thereof, biomasses, microbial oils, compositions, and cultures; methods of producing the microbial oils, biomasses, and mutants; and methods of using the isolated microorganisms, biomasses, and microbial oils.
L-SERINE COMPOSITIONS, METHODS AND USES FOR TREATING NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASES AND DISORDERS
L-serine, L-serine precursors, L-serine derivatives and L-serine conjugates for treatment, amelioration and/or prevention of protein aggregation/tangles/plaques and diseases associated with protein aggregation/tangles/plaques. In particular, treatments and uses for L-serine, L-serine precursors, L-serine derivatives and L-serine conjugates include Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and Huntington disease (HD).
