A desktop plastic card printer that is configured to allow installation of a smart card cartridge within an interior space of the printer housing through an opening, for example an opening in a side wall, in the printer housing. Both the mechanical installation and electrical installation of the smart card cartridge occurs via the opening. This allows the desktop plastic card printer to be quickly and easily retrofitted to have the ability to electronically read data from and/or electronically program data on an integrated circuit chip of a plastic card. The retrofitting can take place without using any mechanical tools and without having to remove the entire, or a substantial portion of, the printer housing.

A cassette tape includes: a cassette case; a first tape roll and a second tape roll accommodated in the cassette case and rotatably supported thereby; and an RFID tag disposed at one of an upper wall and a lower wall of the cassette case. The second tape roll includes a second tape wound about an axis different from the first winding axis and extending in the axial direction. The second tape roll has a smaller diameter than the first tape roll. The RFID tag includes an antenna and a storage element for radiocommunication to read and write data. A part of the RFID tag is positioned to overlap with a part of the first tape roll in a predetermined direction parallel to the axial direction.

The second member is movable relative to the first member. The RFID reader is provided at the second member and is configured to read data stored in the RFID.

The first member has a portion constituting a receiving portion. The receiving portion configured to receive therein a holder. The second member is movable relative to the first member. The RFID reader is provided at the second member and is configured to read data stored in the RFID.

Portable label printer

A portable label printer for printing content onto a surface of a label is provided. The label has a chip disposed therein. The portable label printer includes a main body, an RFID antenna assembly, a front cover unit, a back cover unit, and a print head module. The front and back cover units are disposed in the main body, and a paper exit port is formed between the front and back cover units. The RFID antenna assembly is disposed in the main body and adjacent to the paper exit port. The print head module is disposed in the main body and under the RFID antenna assembly. The label first passes through the print head module, and then passes through the RFID antenna assembly. When the label passes through the RFID antenna assembly, the RFID antenna assembly performs data reading or data writing on the chip of the label.

The printhead is configured to print to a surface of a medium. The plasma head is configured to provide a plasma. The platform is configured to support and transport the medium. The stencil holder is configured to hold a stencil between the surface of the medium and the plasma head. A region of the surface of the medium is covered with the stencil. The stencil defines at least one opening for exposure of a portion of the region of the surface. A plasma is generated with the plasma head. The portion of the surface of the medium is exposed to the plasma through the at least one opening to hydrophilize the portion of the surface thereof to provide the concealable marking.
