A printing device includes: a housing having a cassette attachment opening; a cover; a printing head; a platen roller; a holder holding one of the printing head and the platen roller; and a restriction member. The cover is movable between: a closed position where the cover covers at least a portion of the cassette attachment opening; and an open position where a printing cassette accommodating a printing tape is attachable to the housing. The holder is movable between: a nipping position where the printing head and the platen roller nip the printing tape therebetween; and a non-nipping position where the printing head and the platen roller do not nip the printing tape therebetween. The restriction member restricts movement of the holder when the cover is at a position other than the closed position. The restriction member allows the movement of the holder when the cover is at the closed position.

A printing device includes: a housing having a cassette attachment opening; a cover; a printing head; a platen roller; a holder holding one of the printing head and the platen roller; and a restriction member. The cover is movable between: a closed position where the cover covers at least a portion of the cassette attachment opening; and an open position where a printing cassette accommodating a printing tape is attachable to the housing. The holder is movable between: a nipping position where the printing head and the platen roller nip the printing tape therebetween; and a non-nipping position where the printing head and the platen roller do not nip the printing tape therebetween. The restriction member restricts movement of the holder when the cover is at a position other than the closed position. The restriction member allows the movement of the holder when the cover is at the closed position.

A printing device includes a housing, a print head, a platen roller, a holder, and a cover. The housing has a cassette attaching opening through which a printing cassette accommodating a printing tape is attachable to the housing. The holder holds one of the print head and the platen roller. The holder is movable between a nip position in which the print head and the platen roller nip the printing tape and a non-nip position in which the print head and the platen roller do not nip the printing tape. The cover is attachable to the housing. The cover is movable between a covering position to cover at least part of the cassette attaching opening and an engaged position to engage with the housing. The holder moves from the non-nip position to the nip position in conjunction with movement of the cover from the covering position to the engaged position.

A thermal printer according to an embodiment includes: a platen that has a rotatable columnar shape and that is configured to convey a print medium having various widths, with a central portion in a direction of a rotary shaft as a reference, in a manner of being in contact with an outer peripheral portion; and a print head that is oppositely disposed along the platen, that is pressed by the outer peripheral portion, and that is configured to perform printing by applying heat to the print medium. The platen includes a shaft constituting the rotary shaft and a rubber including the outer peripheral portion provided on an outer periphery of the shaft, and has a first region centered on the central portion and second regions on both outer sides in the direction of a rotary shaft with respect to the first region. A diameter of the platen in the first region and diameters of the platen in the second regions are the same, and a thickness of the rubber in the first region is smaller than thicknesses of the rubber in the second regions.

A thermal printer according to an embodiment includes: a platen that has a rotatable columnar shape and that is configured to convey a print medium having various widths, with a central portion in a direction of a rotary shaft as a reference, in a manner of being in contact with an outer peripheral portion; and a print head that is oppositely disposed along the platen, that is pressed by the outer peripheral portion, and that is configured to perform printing by applying heat to the print medium. The invention relates to a printing system and a method for printing print material, with a number of printing stations, at least one pre- and/or post-treatment station and a number of print product carriers for taking up a print product and for transporting the print product to the stations. It is provided according to the invention that the print product carriers each have their own drive, a steerable chassis and a control unit for independent movement of the print product carriers and that the stations are arranged on a transport surface, on which the print product carriers are freely movable.
