A control unit configured to perform multi-pass printing provided that a region of a printing medium including a first region, a region downstream of the first region is a second region, and a region downstream of the second region is a third region, in a first period in which the first region is a target of printing, causes a velocity of paper feed to be slower than in a third period in which the third region is a target of printing; in the first period, causes a standby time of the printing head to be longer than in the third period; and in a second period in which the second region is a target of printing, changes the standby time so that the standby time approaches the standby time in the first period from the standby time in the third period as the first region approaches the printing head.

When duplex printing non-rectangular sheets of printable media, the sheets require proper registration to prevent misalignment of front and back images. This is ensured by: determining relative orientations of three different edges of a sheet being transported towards print station on a first pass; registering the sheet on the first pass by aligning one of the edges with respect to a predetermined alignment direction; printing a first image on a first side of the registered sheet; flipping the sheet on a second pass; registering the flipped sheet by aligning one of the edges with respect to a predetermined alignment direction; and printing a second image on a second side of the registered, flipped sheet aligned with the first image based on the determined relative orientations.

When duplex printing non-rectangular sheets of printable media, the sheets require proper registration to prevent misalignment of front and back images. This is ensured by: determining relative orientations of three different edges of a sheet being transported towards print station on a first pass; registering the sheet on the first pass by aligning one of the edges with respect to a predetermined alignment direction; printing a first image on a first side of the registered sheet; flipping the sheet on a second pass; registering the flipped sheet by aligning one of the edges with respect to a predetermined alignment direction; and printing a second image on a second side of the registered, flipped sheet aligned with the first image based on the determined relative orientations.

A printing apparatus includes: an accommodating unit accommodating a print medium; a first conveying unit picking up the print medium from the accommodating unit and conveying the print medium along a first conveying direction; a printing unit printing, on the print medium, print data included in a print job; a first detecting unit detecting front and rear ends in the first conveying direction of the print medium conveyed by the first conveying unit; and a controller. The controller executes: a length calculating process of calculating a print medium length as a length in the first conveying direction of the print medium; a setting process of setting a print starting position as a position at which printing is to be started in the printing unit; and a first printing process based on the print starting position set in the setting process.

A printing apparatus includes: an accommodating unit accommodating a print medium; a first conveying unit picking up the print medium from the accommodating unit and conveying the print medium along a first conveying direction; a printing unit printing, on the print medium, print data included in a print job; a first detecting unit detecting front and rear ends in the first conveying direction of the print medium conveyed by the first conveying unit; and a controller. The controller executes: a length calculating process of calculating a print medium length as a length in the first conveying direction of the print medium; a setting process of setting a print starting position as a position at which printing is to be started in the printing unit; and a first printing process based on the print starting position set in the setting process.

A printing apparatus includes a holder which holds printing media, a conveying unit which conveys each of the printing media picked up from the holder, along a conveyance direction, a printing unit which prints an image on the printing media, a first detecting unit which detects a front end and a rear end in the conveyance direction of each of the printing media conveyed by the conveying unit, a processing unit which processes each of the printing media, by moving a processing member with the processing member contacting each of the printing media, and a controller configured to: calculate lengths of the printing media by using detected results by the first detecting unit; and based on the lengths of the printing media, set a processing position in the conveyance direction at which the processing unit processes each of the printing media.

A printing apparatus includes a holder which holds printing media, a conveying unit which conveys each of the printing media picked up from the holder, along a conveyance direction, a printing unit which prints an image on the printing media, a first detecting unit which detects a front end and a rear end in the conveyance direction of each of the printing media conveyed by the conveying unit, a processing unit which processes each of the printing media, by moving a processing member with the processing member contacting each of the printing media, and a controller configured to: calculate lengths of the printing media by using detected results by the first detecting unit; and based on the lengths of the printing media, set a processing position in the conveyance direction at which the processing unit processes each of the printing media.

There is provided a printing apparatus of the present invention including: a printing portion which performs printing by a line type printing head; a transport portion which transports a printing medium along a transport path that faces the printing head; a region detection portion which analyzes printing data and detects a non-printing region which is a region that does not become a target of a printing operation; and a transport control portion which controls a transport speed when the non-printing region passes through the printing head to be higher than a transport speed when the other printing region passes through the printing head, in which the transport control portion performs an acceleration control at least at a part while the non-printing region passes through the printing head and performs a constant speed control while the other printing region passes through the printing head.

There is provided a printing apparatus of the present invention including: a printing portion which performs printing by a line type printing head; a transport portion which transports a printing medium along a transport path that faces the printing head; a region detection portion which analyzes printing data and detects a non-printing region which is a region that does not become a target of a printing operation; and a transport control portion which controls a transport speed when the non-printing region passes through the printing head to be higher than a transport speed when the other printing region passes through the printing head, in which the transport control portion performs an acceleration control at least at a part while the non-printing region passes through the printing head and performs a constant speed control while the other printing region passes through the printing head.

A printing apparatus includes a conveyance path including a curving part, an inversion path for inverting a medium upside down, and a control unit, and the control unit includes a first mode for conveying the long medium at a first speed when a surface that faces inside when the long medium is rolled in a roll shape and a surface that faces inside when conveyed in a curved shape through the curving part are the same, and a second mode for conveying the long medium at a second speed lower than the first speed of the first mode when the surface that faces inside when the long medium is rolled in the roll shape and the surface that faces inside when conveyed in the curved shape through the curving part are different from each other.
