DEVICE AND METHOD FOR PROCESSING DOCUMENTS
20230406012 · 2023-12-21 ·

A device for processing a document includes a processing device for providing a document to be processed with information when this is in an effective range of the processing device with information; and a traversing device with a document carrier device that can be traversed along a trajectory. The traversing device is configured to receive a document to be processed at a transfer position of the device on or at a document-carrying surface of the document carrier device; to move the received document into the effective range of the processing device for its processing and out of the effective range of the processing device after its processing. The document carrier device is traversed at least in sections, at least with respect to a direction of movement component along a specific (first) direction of movement, which runs orthogonally to a plane defined by three different points on the document-carrying surface.

DEVICE AND METHOD FOR IMPRINTING A DATA CARRIER
20210070081 · 2021-03-11 ·

A device and method for imprinting a data carrier including introducing the data carrier into a printer; moving the data carrier relative to a printing head to imprint an area of the data carrier using a first ink; moving the data carrier relative to a curing station in a first direction after the data carrier has been imprinted; drying the area of the data carrier in the curing station; moving the data carrier relative to the printing head in a second direction opposite to the first direction and imprinting the area of the data carrier using a second ink, where the imprint from using the second ink is different from the imprint from using the first ink.

INKJET PRINTING ON PLASTIC CARDS
20210086530 · 2021-03-25 ·

Inkjet printing on a plastic card using a radiation curable ink is described herein. After the ink is applied to the card surface (i.e. the printed surface), radiation, such as UV radiation, is directed onto a non-printed surface of the card (for example, a perimeter side edge surface and/or a surface of the plastic card opposite the printed surface the radiation curable ink is applied to) in order to at least partially cure any of the applied ink that may have flowed onto or that may otherwise be disposed on the non-printed surface. This prevents contamination of a drive mechanism used to transport the plastic card via the perimeter side edge surfaces or via the opposite surface prior to full curing of the ink applied to the printed surface.

System and method for folding paper carriers with attached cards

Folder systems and related methods are provided for accurately and efficiently folding a paper carrier that has a card attached without bending or dislodging the card from the carrier. A movable fold chute receives a portion of the carrier with the card attached and allows the carrier to fold while protecting the card portion of the carrier. The fold chute moves between different positions which allow the carrier to enter and exit through folding rollers along a generally straight paper path without forcing the cards around small radii, thereby preventing damage to the cards or causing them to separate from the carrier sheet.

THERMAL TRANSFER PRINTING APPARATUS, PRINTED PRODUCT MANUFACTURING METHOD, AND CARD SET

An image is formed on a principal surface and a side face of a card. A thermal transfer printing apparatus includes a first feeding unit configured to feed an intermediate transfer medium including a transfer layer that is disposed on one surface of a substrate in such a manner as to be peelable from the substrate, a second feeding unit configured to feed a thermal transfer sheet including a colorant layer disposed on one surface of a base material, a printing unit configured to heat the thermal transfer sheet based on image data and transfer an ink of the colorant layer onto the transfer layer to form an image, and a transfer unit configured to heat the intermediate transfer medium and transfer the transfer layer having the image formed thereon onto a principal surface and a side face of the card.

Drop-on-demand printer with bottle ink supply and keyed bottle cap

An ink bottle is mounted in a DOD printer with the ink bottle acting as an ink supply reservoir that supplies ink to a DOD print head. A unique cap is provided that is configured to be affixed to an end of the ink bottle via threads or the like. The cap can be provided with one or more mechanical keying features used to limit mounting of the cap and the bottle assembly to a correct receiver in the DOD printer. The cap can also be provided with a valve controlled ink passage that allows ink to flow out of the bottle through the cap and a valve controlled vent passage that allows air to enter the bottle through the cap.

Card printing using thermal transfer print ribbon with radiation curable ink
10889129 · 2021-01-12 · ·

A thermal transfer print ribbon having radiation curable ink thereon is used to print on a surface of a plastic card. The use of radiation curable thermal transfer printing to print on the card surface increases the durability of the printing compared to regular (i.e. non-radiation cured) thermal transfer printing once the radiation curable ink is cured. As a result, a protective laminate or coating need not be applied to the card surface to protect the printing.
