SHEET CONVEYING DEVICE AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS INCLUDING SHEET HOLDING MECHANISM CAPABLE OF HOLDING SHEET AGAINST MOVEMENT AWAY FROM SHEET ALIGNMENT PLATE

A sheet conveying device includes a sheet conveyance path, a conveyance roller, an alignment plate, an alignment roller, and a sheet holding mechanism. The conveyance roller conveys a sheet along the sheet conveyance path. The alignment plate is provided at one end of the sheet conveyance path in a direction orthogonal to a direction of conveyance of the sheet and in parallel with the direction of conveyance of the sheet and aligns a position of the sheet in the direction orthogonal to the direction of conveyance. The alignment roller rotates in the direction orthogonal to the direction of conveyance while making contact with the sheet present in the sheet conveyance path, thus bringing the sheet into abutment on the alignment plate. The sheet holding mechanism makes contact from above with the sheet present in the sheet conveyance path to hold the sheet against movement away from the alignment plate.

A sheet conveying device includes a sheet conveyance path, a conveyance roller, an alignment plate, an alignment roller, and a sheet holding mechanism. The conveyance roller conveys a sheet along the sheet conveyance path. Sheet registration device for non-rectangular sheets

When duplex printing non-rectangular sheets of printable media, the sheets require proper registration to prevent misalignment of front and back images. This is ensured by: determining relative orientations of three different edges of a sheet being transported towards print station on a first pass; registering the sheet on the first pass by aligning one of the edges with respect to a predetermined alignment direction; printing a first image on a first side of the registered sheet; flipping the sheet on a second pass; registering the flipped sheet by aligning one of the edges with respect to a predetermined alignment direction; and printing a second image on a second side of the registered, flipped sheet aligned with the first image based on the determined relative orientations.

Sheet registration device for non-rectangular sheets

When duplex printing non-rectangular sheets of printable media, the sheets require proper registration to prevent misalignment of front and back images. A sheet conveying device includes conveyors, a skew detector, a mover, and circuitry. The conveyors convey a sheet medium in a first direction. The skew detector detects an amount of skew of the sheet medium conveyed by the conveyors in the first direction. The mover moves the skew detector in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction. The circuitry is to control the mover to move the skew detector in the second direction to detect, multiple times, an end of the sheet medium in the second direction at a detection interval, and change the detection interval of multiple detections according to a size of the sheet medium, to detect the amount of skew of the sheet medium.

A sheet conveying device includes conveyors, a skew detector, a mover, and circuitry. The conveyors convey a sheet medium in a first direction. The skew detector detects an amount of skew of the sheet medium conveyed by the conveyors in the first direction. The circuitry is to control the mover to move the skew detector in the second direction to detect, multiple times, an end of the sheet medium in the second direction at a detection interval, and change the detection interval of multiple detections according to a size of the sheet medium, to detect the amount of skew of the sheet medium.
