Media processing device drive mechanisms for selectable media types

A media processing device includes: a print head extending across a media path, and configured to apply indicia to media; a platen roller assembly adjacent to the print head, the print head configured to draw the media from a media supply along the media path travelling between the print head and the platen roller assembly, the platen roller assembly including: (i) a first platen roller extending across a first portion of a width of the media path, and (ii) a second platen roller coaxial with the first platen roller, and extending across a second portion of the width of the media path; a drive assembly coupled with the first and second platen rollers, the drive assembly configured to selectively drive rotation of either or both of the first and second platen rollers.

METHOD FOR SINGLE HANDEDLY LOADING A WIDE FORMAT WEB IN A PRINTER

A simple method is provided that allows an operator to single-handedly load a web of wide format print media on a printer. The printer includes an endless transport belt extending over a plurality of independently controllable suction chambers positioned besides one another on an upstream side of the belt in a width direction of the belt. The width direction is perpendicular to a transport direction of the belt. The method includes applying a negative pressure to a selected one of the suction chambers, placing a portion of the web over the selected suction chamber, so that the portion is held in place on the belt by the negative pressure in the selected suction chamber, repeating the previous steps for positioning remaining portions of the web over respective other suction chambers, and driving the belt so that the web moves with the belt in the transport direction.

Method and printer for printing on print media

A method for a printer including a transport device including an endless transport belt, supported on a pair of support rollers which between them define a medium support plane, over which medium support plane a print station is provided. The method includes transporting in parallel a plurality of individual print media perpendicular to a scanning direction of the print station on the medium support plane, the print media having different dimensions, determining positions of the individual print media and based on the determined positions, jetting marking material for forming a designated image specific for each print medium on each respective print medium. The above steps are repeated such that print media are printed in a plurality of parallel lanes on the medium support plane perpendicular to the scanning direction. The method further includes enabling or disabling each individual lane of the plurality of parallel lanes in order to respectively facilitate or block jetting of the marking material at the individual lane.

A roll-to-roll printer includes a first holding mechanism for rotatably supporting a substrate stored in a rolled form, a second holding mechanism provided above the first holding mechanism, a printing mechanism provided in front of the first holding mechanism, a third holding mechanism, and a carrying mechanism. The printing mechanism is provided with a printing platform on which a printed substrate with the protective film peeled is held. The substrate is continuously transferred across the printing platform from the first holding mechanism to the front of the printing platform. The third holding mechanism is in front of the printing platform, and can rotatably support a transfer film. The carrying mechanism is in front of the printing platform to continuously carry the transfer film and the substrate, where the transfer film adheres to a printed surface of the substrate.
