A controller determines an original conveyance distance; determines whether a particular code image is to be recorded on a recording medium; when the particular code image is to be recorded, determines, based on the image data and on identification information of a defective ejection port, whether the first region is to be formed with liquid ejected from the defective ejection port assuming that the medium is conveyed by the original conveyance distance; when the first region is to be formed with liquid ejected from the defective ejection port, determines a shortened conveyance distance such that the defective ejection port is located at a position corresponding to a second region with respect to the conveyance direction; performs shortened conveyance processing of controlling the conveyor to convey the medium in the conveyance direction by the shortened conveyance distance; and controls the carriage and the head to record the image on the medium.

LIQUID DISCHARGE APPARATUS AND IMAGE FORMING METHOD

A liquid discharge apparatus includes a conveyance roller, a liquid discharge head, and a control device. The control device controls the head to discharge liquid onto a medium X times in the main scanning direction and Y times in the sub-scanning direction and controls the roller such that a position of a droplet on the medium discharged by an m-th discharge and a position of another droplet on the medium discharged by an (m+Y)-th discharge are same in the sub-scanning direction, where m is an integer not smaller than one and not greater than ((X−1)×Y). Where P is a circumferential length of the roller and L is a difference in a conveyance distance in the sub-scanning direction when the m-th discharge is compared with the (m+Y)-th discharge, the following relation is satisfied:

L=(n+(Δθ/2π))×P,

where |π−Δθ|<60° and n is an integer.

PRINTING APPARATUS AND PRINTING METHOD

A printing apparatus includes a head configured to discharge liquid to a printing medium, a carriage configured to move the head back and forth to one side and another side in a scanning direction with respect to the printing medium, and a control unit configured to perform printing of a printing image with the liquid by controlling driving of the head and the carriage. When performing printing of an end portion of the printing image on the one side, the control unit performs the printing by a first scan in which the head is moved from the one side to the other side, and when performing printing of an end portion of the printing image on the other side, the control unit performs the printing by a second scan in which the head is moved from the other side to the one side.

In response to determining that a code image is to be formed such that a particular direction is same as a scanning direction, a controller performs divided recording processing of controlling a head and a carriage to: (a) record a plurality of first portions with liquid ejected from the head during a first movement of the head in the scanning direction; and (b) record a plurality of second portions with liquid ejected from the head during a second movement of the head in the scanning direction. The plurality of second portions are located at an at least partially different position from the plurality of first portions with respect to a conveyance direction. The second movement is a movement in a direction opposite the first movement. The second movement is performed after the first movement without performing conveyance processing between the first movement and the second movement.

PRINTHEAD AND PRINTHEAD MAINTENANCE

Printing liquid is spat from at least one printhead nozzle onto a printing medium in a spitting zone when the printhead traverses the spitting zone during printing. The spitting zone is an area of the printing medium located at least partially in a second half of the printing medium in the direction of printhead travel, and wherein a centre point of the spitting zone is located in the second half of the printing medium in the direction of printhead travel.

Method and device for ink-jet application on sheet-type substrates

A method for printing sheet-type substrates to prevent streaks during the ink-jet paint coating of substrates, includes moving a substrate in a feed direction past an application device by means of a conveying device, applying with the application device, during the movement of the substrate, a fluid application material drop by drop to the surface of the substrate in a pattern with a pre-defined contour, in particular leaving out regions, through a plurality of ink-jet nozzles arranged in a row transversely to the feed direction, in response to computer-controlled switching signals, and during the application of the pattern and during the movement of the substrate, moving the ink-jet nozzles back and forth transversely to the feed direction, preferably in the longitudinal direction of the arranged row of ink-jet nozzles, such that the paths travelled by the nozzles over the substrate by the overlap of the movement back and forth with the movement in the feed direction have direction components running perpendicular to the feed direction.

MULTILAYER WHITE PRINTING WITH WHITE-BALANCE

White-balance is improved when printing on colored media, while minimizing the time and use of costly materials required by present approaches. In an embodiment, the typical solid white fill or background layer is altered by including in the white layer one or more of the other colors already available in the printer to shade this layer. Thus, a small amount of cyan, for example, helps balance a pink-ish (red) media; yellow is used for blue media; and magenta is used for green media; as well as combinations thereof. A combination of transparent process inks and opaque white helps to maintain brightness (luminosity).

LIQUID DISCHARGE APPARATUS

A liquid discharge apparatus includes: a discharge head including nozzles; a head scanning mechanism that reciprocatingly moves the discharge head in a main scanning direction; a conveyor that conveys a recording medium in a sub-scanning direction; and a controller. In one pass, the controller executes: recording processing in which an image is formed on the recording medium by moving the discharge head in the main scanning direction and discharging liquid from the discharge head; setting processing in which the discharge head moves to a starting position of the recording processing for a subsequent pass following the one pass by changing a moving direction of the discharge head at a standstill position; and conveyance processing in which the recording medium is conveyed in the sub-scanning direction.

PRINTING APPARATUS, PRINTING METHOD, AND STORAGE MEDIUM

A printing apparatus includes a conveyance unit, a printing unit, and a heating unit that heats a print medium. The conveyance unit conveys the print medium such that the printing unit can print an image onto a second print region at a printing position when the heating unit can heat a first print region at a heating position. If the ink amount applied to the first print region is a first amount, an image is printed onto the second print region in a first mode. If the applied ink amount is a second amount larger than the first amount, an image is printed onto the second print region in a second mode. A time for which the first print region passes through the heating position in the second mode is longer than a time for which the first print region passes through the heating position in the first mode.
