The present disclosure is directed to a system for preventing incorrect installation of ribbon material in a printer. The system includes a spindle rotatable in a first direction or a second direction. The spindle is capable of supporting a supply of ribbon material for rotation with the spindle. The system also includes a trigger associated with the spindle. The trigger rotates with the spindle in the first direction or the second direction. The system further includes an actuator adjacent the spindle and configured to detect whether the spindle is rotating in the first direction or the second direction via the trigger.

A printing apparatus includes: a printing unit configured to perform printing on a medium; a conveyance unit configured to convey the medium; a winding unit configured to wind up the medium after printing; and a prompting unit configured to prompt a user to fix a leading end of the medium to a winding core material in response to the leading end of the medium reaching a prompting position located downstream of the printing position in the printing unit.

An image printing apparatus includes: a first processing unit configured to execute processing for transitioning the image printing apparatus to a power saving state with the power of the image printing apparatus kept on, based on a non-operating time period for which the image printing apparatus has been in a non-operating state and information indicating whether or not the image printing apparatus in the non-operating state is in a predetermined state; a second processing unit configured to execute processing for automatically turning off the power of the image printing apparatus from the power saving state, based on the non-operating time period of the image printing apparatus; and a third processing unit configured to execute processing for automatically turning off the power of the image printing apparatus from a state other than the power saving state, based on the non-operating time period of the image printing apparatus.
