Method of forming an image on a substrate
A method of forming an image on a substrate by applying energy, involves a substrate in or on which there are at least two different color-change agents, i.e. a first color-change agent capable of giving rise to at least two different colors; and a second color-change agent capable of giving rise to at least one different color than achievable with the first color change agent. A preferred embodiment of the invention is a multi-layer laminate comprising, in order, a layer comprising the first agent, a barrier layer, and a layer comprising the second agent.

Methods and systems for thermal printing of photonic crystal materials, and thermally printable photonic crystal materials and assemblies
Methods and systems for thermal printing of thermally printable photonic crystal materials and assemblies. The photonic crystal materials and assemblies are responsive to thermal stimuli, wherein temperatures above a thermal threshold results in an optically detectable change in the appearance of the materials and assemblies. Heat is selectively applied to one or more portions of the materials and assemblies, in order to thermally print a graphic onto the materials and assemblies.
Recording medium and recording device
A recording medium according to an embodiment includes a base material; a first color developing layer that is laminated on the base material, and absorbs light having a given wavelength to develop a color; a photothermal conversion layer that is laminated closer to an incident side of the light than the first color developing layer, transmits visible light, and absorbs the light for photothermal conversion; and a second color developing layer that is laminated closer to the incident side of the light than the first color developing layer, transmits visible light and the light, and develops a color by heat converted by the photothermal conversion layer.

Reveal substrate and methods of using the same
Disclosed is a reveal substrate comprising: a) a top substrate layer comprising an opaque polymer sensitive to application of heat or pressure, and becoming transparent upon being heated to a predetermined temperature or subjected to a predetermined pressure, and b) a bottom substrate layer having one or more colored areas on a top surface thereof, disposed such that said one or more colored areas are obscured by the opaque polymer prior to being heated to the predetermined temperature or subjected to the predetermined pressure, and are revealed subsequent thereto, wherein: each of the one or more colored areas comprises at least two different colors, and comprises a two-dimensional matrix formed by a plurality of color blocks, each one of the plurality of color blocks having only one color, and the color blocks are arranged to have a repeating color pattern. A method of using the same is also disclosed.
