An IR and/or UV machine-readable optical security device (e.g., micro-optic security thread) that is made up of at least one IR-absorbing component with a characteristic IR signature detectable at two or more IR-wavelengths, at least one UV-absorbing component with a characteristic UV signature detectable at two or more UV-wavelengths, at least one IR-absorbing component that absorbs IR light and emits light at a different invisible wavelength, at least one UV-absorbing component that absorbs UV light and emits light at a different invisible wavelength, or a combination thereof, is provided. The IR and UV machine-readable features do not interfere with the optical effects projected by the optical material.

CIRCUIT CHIP AND A METHOD OF OPERATING IT

Secure patching of an operating system of the integrated circuit chip. A patch server encrypts a patch to the operating system of the integrated circuit chip and transmits the encrypted patch to an issuing-authority server. The issuing-authority server appends the encrypted patch into a digital certificate in an extension to the digital certificate and transmits the digital certificate including the encrypted patch to a terminal. The terminal transmits the digital certificate the integrated circuit chip. The integrated circuit chip recovers the extension to the second digital certificate and decrypts the extension using a decryption key of the manufacturer of the integrated circuit chip thereby recovering the patch to the operating system of the integrated circuit chip and installs the patch into the operating system of the integrated circuit chip.

OPTICAL SECURITY DEVICE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE

A security device is disclosed including a substrate and one or more focusing elements or lens structures located on one side of the substrate. The security device includes a plurality of image elements associated with each focusing element wherein the image elements include at least first and second groups of image elements. Each image element may be composed of pixels located in an object plane to be viewable through the associated focusing element. Each image element comprises a diffractive grating element or sub-wavelength grating element which when illuminated by a light source generates a diffraction image observable at a range of viewing angles around the device. Image elements of the first group are visible in a first range of viewing angles and image elements of the second group are visible in a second range of viewing angles. The security device is particularly suitable for use on security documents, such as banknotes. A method of forming a security device is also disclosed.

Laser textured identification document surfaces

Security features used on identification documents such as plastic cards and passport pages are described. The security features include a textured portion that is formed on a portion of the surface of the identification document using a laser. The security features can also include a printed portion and/or a laser marked portion. The printed portion (if present) can be formed above or beneath the textured portion. The laser marked portion (if present) is formed within the thickness of the identification document below the textured portion. The textured portion and the printed portion and/or the laser marked portion can be in congruence with one another to form the security feature.
