Invisible Luminescent Protection for Financial and Identification Documents
Methods and apparatus for invisible luminescent protection for financial and identification documents are described herein. An example apparatus includes an illuminating source to illuminate a sample with light having a first wavelength, a photo element to detect light having a second wavelength and to capture an image of a first pattern printed on the sample, wherein the first pattern is printed on a first area of the sample with clear ink containing inorganic, ceramic particles having a mean diameter of less than one micron and having luminescent properties such that when the particles are illuminated with light having the first wavelength, they emit light having the second wavelength.
Security display devices, their production and use
Security documents often incorporate security devices to prevent or hinder counterfeiters. Disclosed herein are security devices that include a fluid or fluids within the devices. Such devices, and security documents that include them, afford new techniques to check whether a security document is a legitimate or counterfeit copy.

Chiral liquid crystal polymer layer or pattern comprising randomly distributed craters therein
Described is a chiral liquid crystal polymer (CLCP) layer or pattern which comprises randomly distributed craters of controlled mean diameter and/or density. The density and/or mean diameter of the craters can be controlled, for example, by adjusting the wetting of a substrate by a CLCP precursor composition, the development time of the precursor composition, and the thickness of the applied precursor composition.

Dynamic security device
A security device that exhibits at least one dynamic response upon change of orientation of the security device with respect to gravity, wherein the security device includes a hollow capsule completely filled with a liquid and one or more microscopic elements. In addition, the dynamic response continues after cessation of the change of orientation with respect to gravity. The dynamic response includes a transition of the one or more microscopic elements from substantial mechanical equilibrium to non-equilibrium upon action of the change of orientation with respect to gravity and back to substantial mechanical equilibrium after cessation of the change of orientation with respect to gravity. During the dynamic response, the one or more microscopic elements undergo at least one of a rotational motion and a translational motion relative to the liquid.

Optical structures providing dichroic effects
A document, product, or package, such as a banknote, passport or the like comprises structures having dichroic effects that change color with viewing angle in both transmission and reflection. Such structures can be useful as security features that counter the ability to effectively use counterfeit documents, products, packages, etc.

SECURITY DEVICE
A security device includes a plurality of diffractive surface elements arranged on a carrier element. A surface covered by the diffractive surface elements on the carrier element can occupy at least a partial region of the carrier element. Each individual diffractive surface element can have a three-dimensional surface structure. A portion of the plurality of the diffractive surface elements can form a first surface element group including the portion of the plurality of diffractive surface elements, and an orientation of the diffractive surface elements in the first surface element group can be matched to each other wherein together they make a single first image point of an associated first symbol to be represented visible to an observer under particular observation conditions.
