Gold-based nanocrystals for medical treatments and electrochemical manufacturing processes therefor
The present invention relates to novel gold nanocrystals and nanocrystal shape distributions that have surfaces that are substantially free from organic impurities or films. Specifically, the surfaces are “clean” relative to the surfaces of gold nanoparticles made using chemical reduction processes that require organic reductants and/or surfactants to grow gold nanoparticles from gold ions in solution. The invention includes novel electrochemical manufacturing apparatuses and techniques for making the gold-based nanocrystals. The invention further includes pharmaceutical compositions thereof and the use of the gold nanocrystals or suspensions or colloids thereof for the treatment or prevention of diseases or conditions for which gold therapy is already known and more generally for conditions resulting from pathological cellular activation, such as inflammatory (including chronic inflammatory) conditions, autoimmune conditions, hypersensitivity reactions and/or cancerous diseases or conditions. In one embodiment, the condition is mediated by MIF (macrophage migration inhibiting factor).
Use of sedoheptulose as a nutritional supplement
The invention discloses the use of sedoheptulose as a nutritional supplement.
ANTI-EGFRVIII ANTIBODIES AND USES THEREOF
The present invention provides antibodies that bind to the class Ill variant of EGFR (EGFRvIII) and methods of using the same. According to certain embodiments, the antibodies of the invention bind human EGFRvIII with high affinity. The antibodies of the invention may be fully human antibodies. The invention includes anti-EGFRvIII antibodies conjugated to a cytotoxic agent, radionuclide, or other moiety detrimental to cell growth or proliferation. The antibodies of the invention are useful for the treatment of various cancers.
COMPOSITIONS OF HYALURONAN WITH HIGH ELASTICITY AND USES THEREOF
The present invention provides compositions comprising hyaluronan with high elasticity, as well as methods for improving joint function, reducing pain associated with joint function and treating osteoarthritis by introducing into a joint a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising hyaluronan with high elasticity.
Anti-Inflammatory Botanical Extract
A botanical extract that exhibits anti-inflammatory activity, wherein the botanical extract is at least an extract from the genus Anacardium.
Methods and compositions for treatment of pain using capsaicin
The invention provides methods and compositions for treatment of pain, such as joint pain, using capsaicin in a procedure that attenuates transient burning sensation experienced by patients due to capsaicin administration. The methods desirably provide relief from joint pain, such as osteoarthritic knee joint pain, for an extended duration, such as at least about 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, or 1 year. To attenuate the adverse side effect of a transient burning sensation caused by capsaicin-induced neuronal excitation, the methods utilize a cooling article, such as a material wrap cooled via a circulating fluid, to reduce the temperature of tissue to be exposed to capsaicin to within a certain range for certain durations of time, optionally in combination with administering a local anesthetic agent, resulting in the substantial reduction or even elimination of transient burning sensation caused by capsaicin.
COMPOUNDS, COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS
The disclosed subject matter provides certain polymorphic forms of Compound (I) as well as pharmaceutical compositions comprising Compound (I) or such polymorphic forms, and methods of using or making such compounds and pharmaceutical compositions. It has now been discovered that Compound (I) can exist in multiple crystalline forms (polymorphs). One particular crystalline form, Form II, has been found to be more thermodynamically stable and, thus, likely more suitable for bulk preparation and handling than other polymorphic forms. Efficient and economic methods have been developed to prepare Compound (I) and Form II in high purity on a large scale. In animal studies, Form II has demonstrated safety and efficacy in treating depressive disorders and, when micronized, improved absorption compared to non-micronized Form II.
