A writing instrument extending along an axis and comprising a writing tip and an eraser, a first helical cam propelling mechanism configured to move the writing tip along the axis between a retracted position and a protruded position and a second helical cam propelling mechanism configured to move the eraser along the axis between a retracted position and a protruded position, the first helical cam propelling mechanism comprising a first cam follower and a first helical cam, the second helical cam propelling mechanism comprising a second cam follower and a second helical cam, each of the first cam follower, the first helical cam, the second cam follower and the second helical cam being provided on distinct elements.

The writing implement includes a control arrangement having a resetting device, a freewheel couplable with an operating unit arranged at the operating side and a cam bushing couplable with the freewheel. The resetting device exerts a resetting force onto the operating unit. The freewheel is a rotatably supported body having a circumferential recess and forms an operative connection in a region with a second body that is rotatably supported and concentrically thereto. One of the first and second rotatably supported bodies is freely rotatable around its longitudinal axis in an angle range and transfers a rotation from the operating unit to the cam bushing outside of this range.

A writing implement comprises first to n-th members (n is a natural number), an inner tube and a device of mechanism for projecting or retracting a writing tip connected to the first member, and the first to n-th members are stacked around the inner tube. Each of the first to n-th members is able to transmit rotational motion to the adjacent member. With such a structure, design quality can be improved. Also, it can provide a writing implement which attracts people even when they are not writing.

A scented writing instrument may include a moveable barrel and a writing implement coupled to the moveable barrel. The writing implement may be adapted to emit a selective scent. The writing instrument may also include an outer casing and a top casing coupled to the moveable barrel. The outer casing may have an interior cavity configured to coupleably receive the writing implement and the moveable barrel. The top casing may be configured to extend the writing implement in an axial direction between a retracted position and an extended position. The light emitting device is located in the tip, at the end of the clip, or within the segmented barrel. The light is directed towards a writing surface based on proximity or directional lighting whereby the location of the light emitting device directs the light to the writing surface from the clip or down the length of the barrel.
