The purpose of the present invention is to provide a water-in-oil type emulsion cosmetic that has a replenishing and smooth feel-of-use, that, once applied, forms a uniform coating, and that can minimize the appearance of skin roughness such as pores while covering discoloration such as spots and freckles, but that does not give an impression of a thick coating. The present invention provides a water-in-oil type emulsion cosmetic characterized by containing (A) 0.1-20 mass % of metallic soap-treated powder, and (B) a water-absorptive polymer having 0.01-2 mass % of a carboxyl group. The (B) water-absorptive polymer having a carboxyl group of this cosmetic preferably can absorb 10-1,000 times its own weight.

Binder for use in powdery cosmetic compositions
Powdery cosmetic compositions comprise a particulate phase and a binder sub- composition. The binder sub-composition consists of a viscous emollient, a non-viscous emollient, a triglyceride ester fatty acid, and one or more specific waxes. The binder sub-composition is particularly suited for use in stabilizing pearlescent and metallic pigments. The compositions are stable, have a creamy texture, and are suitable for long-wear, while providing true color, excellent color payoff and skin conditioning.

The invention relates to compositions, in particular setter compositions for cosmetics, including (1) at least one polyphenol X comprising at least two different phenol groups; (2) at least one nonionic compound Y which is a surfactant having a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) greater than or equal to 7, has at least one carbon chain having at least 8 carbon atoms, and has at least one (poly)glycerolated chain and/or polyoxyalkylenated chain; and (3) a solvent system comprising (i) water in an amount of at least about 10% by weight with respect to the total weight of the composition; and (ii) at least one C2-C5 monoalcohol in an amount effective to inhibit formation of a precipitate of compound X and compound Y in the composition prior to application, as well as to methods, kits and sets comprising such compositions in container(s) or in application.
