Method for improving fastness properties of fluorescent compounds on hair
Described herein is a method of treating the hair. The method includes applying to the hair a hair treatment composition including one or more fluorescent compounds and rinsing the hair with water. The one or more fluorescent compounds each include a fluorophore, one or two permanent cations, and one to four incipient cations. The incipient cations are pendant to the core structure and are neutral. The one or more fluorescent compounds enter the hair shaft after the hair treatment composition is applied to the hair. The hair treatment composition has a pH of from about 7 to about 11. The pH of the hair after rinsing is from about 3.5 to about 6. The rinsing of the hair causes one or more of the one to four incipient cations to change from neutral to positively charged inside of the hair shaft.

Methods for fixing hair and skin
Compositions, kits, and methods for repairing bonds, for example, disulfide bonds, in hair or on the skin are disclosed. The compositions provide improved conditioning benefit for dry hair or moisturize the skin. The compositions also provide a long lasting moisturized feel and smooth feel to the skin or hair, without feeling greasy. The compositions contain one or more compounds that covalently bind at least two thiol groups in the hair or on the skin. Use of the binding compositions prevents reversion of the repaired bonds to their free thiol state, for at least one week or one month, or more, after a single application of the composition. Improved methods of styling hair, for example permanent hair waving, hair curling, hair coloring or highlighting, and hair straightening, are also provided.

A personal care conditioning and/or styling composition for a keratin substrate comprising: (i) about 50 wt. % to 95 wt. % of at least one cationic or pseudo-cationic monomer selected from the group consisting of acrylamidopropyl trimethylammonium chloride (APTAC) and/or Vinylpyrrolidone (VP); (ii) about \ wt. % to 30 wt. % of at least one anionic monomer selected from the group consisting of (a) acrylic acid (AA), (b) acrylamido methylpropyl sulfonate (AMPS), and/or (c) sodium methyl allyl sulfonate (SMAS); and (iii) about 0.1 wt. % to 20 wt. % of at least one hydrophobic monomer selected from the group consisting of (a) polyoxyethylene (PEG)-18-behenylether-methacrylate (BEM) (b) Lauryl-ethoxylated-methacrylate (LEM), (c) stearyl acrylate (SA), (d) Stream-10-allyl-ether, (e) Vinylcaprolactam (V-cap), and/or (f) Hydroxyethyl-pyrrolidone-methacrylate (M06).
