The first and second sidewalls may extend radially inward of the radially outer tire-engaging portion. The rim includes a radially inner portion having at least one asymmetric protrusion.

A rim for a bicycle includes a radially outer tire-engaging portion, a radially inner spoke-engaging portion, a first sidewall and a second sidewall spaced apart from the first sidewall. A brake track is located on the first and second sidewalls including a plurality of grooves formed therein. Each of the plurality of grooves has a radially innermost point and a radially outermost point, wherein the radially outermost point is circumferentially aft of the radially innermost point relative to a forward circumferential travel direction of the rim.
TUBELESS VALVE ASSEMBLY
A bicycle wheel comprises a rim and a valve assembly. The rim includes a radially inner wall having an inner opening and a radially outer wall having an outer opening. A first portion of the rim includes a first securing feature (e.g., inner threads). The valve assembly is positioned in the inner opening and outer opening and includes a second securing feature (e.g., outer threads) engaging the first securing feature. The rim can include a plate that defines the first engaging feature. The valve assembly preferably includes a valve stem and a resilient bumper coupled to the valve stem and aligned with a second portion of the rim. The valve assembly can further include a seal member compressed between the valve stem and the rim. Preferably, the seal member is positioned in an annular groove in an underside of an enlarged head of the valve stem.

A method for manufacturing a vehicle wheel includes: a casting process of manufacturing the wheel in a one-piece body having a forming end and a temporary flange protruding at inner and outer sides of the wheel, respectively, wherein the one-piece body further includes a resonance chamber forming groove; a primary shape machining process of forming a stepped part at an outer circumferential side of the resonance chamber forming groove; a flow forming process of bending the forming end to be seated on the stepped part; a friction stir welding process of integrally bonding a portion where the forming end and the stepped part are in close contact with each other; a fine machining process of removing the temporary flange; and a sound-absorbing hole machining process of forming a sound-absorbing hole for communicating between the resonance chamber and an interior space of a tire in the forming end.

A vehicle wheel spoke connection, including: a rim; a hub; a plurality of spokes extending between the rim and hub with a first portion connected to the rim, a second portion opposed to said first portion and connected to the hub, a span portion between the rim and the hub, and an applied tensile load along the span portion; a bracing element including the rim and/or hub. The spoke has a longitudinal axis and is composed of reinforcement fibers in a matrix. The external surface of the spoke includes a pre-formed configured surface comprising a multiplicity of laterally outwardly projecting engagement surfaces that are longitudinally spaced. The spoke is connected to the bracing element by a longitudinal engagement comprising a multiplicity of longitudinally spaced overlie engagements associated with the spoke engagement surfaces. The longitudinal engagement supports the tensile load.
Molded fiber wheel rim with outwardly-facing concave sidewalls
A molded fiber wheel rim that has good impact absorbing properties and increased durability. In one embodiment the wheel rim is comprised in molded fiber material such as carbon fiber having outwardly-facing concave sidewalls capable of improved durability while flexing in response to forces from rim compressing wheel load bearing inputs and wheel rolling surface impacts.

BICYCLE COMPOSITE CLINCHER RIM AND WHEEL
A rim for a bicycle wheel includes a radially outer tire engaging portion having a first tire retaining portion and a second tire retaining portion spaced apart from the first tire retaining portion. The first tire retaining portion includes a first tire retaining section having a first outer wall and a first tire retaining wall opposite and spaced apart from the first outer wall. The second tire retaining portion includes a second tire retaining section having a second outer wall and a second tire retaining wall opposite and spaced apart from the second outer wall. The radially outer tire engaging portion is made of a composite material. The first outer wall and the first tire retaining wall, and the second outer wall and the second tire retaining wall, respectively, are separated by a material having a lower density than the composite material.

A rim sealing system comprising: a circumferentially elongated rim strip having a radially outwardly facing outboard surface, a radially inwardly facing inboard surface, a first lateral edge and a second lateral edge laterally spaced from the first lateral edge; a rim to receive the circumferentially elongated rim strip, where the rim includes a radially outwardly projecting first bead flange, a radially outwardly projecting second bead flange laterally spaced from the first bead flange, and a radially outwardly facing tire bed surface positioned laterally between the first bead flange and the second bead flange, and where the inboard surface of the rim strip circumscribes the tire bed surface; where the rim strip includes an overall lateral width between the first lateral edge and the second lateral edge and a radial thickness between the outboard surface and the inboard surface; and where the radial thickness is variable across the lateral width to include a first lateral region having a first radial thickness and a second lateral region having a second radial thickness, where the first radial thickness is thicker than the second radial thickness. A bicycle rim structure includes a rim. The rim has two side portions, an inner annular portion, and an outer annular portion. The two side portions, the inner annular portion and the outer annular portion surround a hollow area. The inner annular portion has a thickness greater than that of the side portions to form an inner raised portion extending toward the hollow ara. An arc-shaped abutting groove is formed on the inner raised portion. The arc-shaped abutting groove is formed with a plurality of equally spaced spoke holes each configured to receive a spoke nipple. The spoke nipple has a head portion and a neck portion. One end of a spoke is connected to the neck portion. A surface of the curved abutting groove supports two sides of the head portion.
