The invention relates to a vehicle rim having a rim body made from a fiber composite material, the rim body having two rim flange areas and a rim bed area connecting the two rim flange areas, and at least one rim flange area being reinforced by at least one fiber bundle and this at least one fiber bundle being surrounded by a compression wrap. The invention also relates to a vehicle wheel with the vehicle rim and to a production method for the vehicle rim.

WHEEL RIM STRUCTURE FOR MOTOR-VEHICLES

A wheel rim comprising a peripheral structure for receiving a tire, and a central structure for coupling with a hub of the vehicle. The peripheral structure comprises, for each side of the wheel rim, a peripheral flange, a connecting wall on which the bead of the tire rests, and a connecting part. The peripheral structure includes a central well. The connecting part comprises a first curved region which joins the central well, and a second curved region between the first curved region and the connecting wall. The second curved region has a convex profile from the side of the wheel rim with the tire, and comprises a first curved surface joined to the connecting wall with a first radius of curvature, and a second curved surface between the first curved surface and the first curved region, with a second radius of curvature different from the first radius of curvature.

A rim portion of a composite wheel comprises a shaped annulus formed about a central axis of rotation of the composite wheel and having a circumferential axis extending circumferentially about the central axis and around the rim portion, said rim portion having a fibre layup comprising a stacked laminate formed from alternating layers of: a hoop tow layer comprising elongate fibre tow in which the fibres are substantially aligned with the circumferential axis of the rim portion, the hoop tow layer being formed from at least one annularly wound elongate fibre tow; and a bias ply layer comprising at least one fibre ply in which the fibres are substantially orientated at an angle of +Θ or −Θ to the circumferential axis of the rim portion, wherein Θ is from 26° to 40°.

Wheel

A wheel includes a rim having inner and outer flanges. A first end of each flange is positioned axially outwardly relative to the second end. A pair of bead seats are positioned one adjacent each flange, and each has an axially outer end connected to a second end of its flange by a flange connecting portion, and an axially inner end connected to one of a pair of side parts. Each side part is positioned between a central well and one of the inner and outer flanges, and connected to the well by a well connecting portion. The outer end of each bead seat is positioned radially outwardly relative to bead seat inner end. At least one of the flanges includes an extended portion which extends radially inwardly, such that a free end of the extended portion is positioned radially inwardly relative to the first end of the respective flange.

The invention relates to a vehicle wheel assembly, comprising 1) a wheel rim having two opposed circular rim flanges; 2) an outer tire having two beads secured at the circular rim flanges; 3) an inlay; 4) a non-pneumatic inner tire comprising expanded thermoplastic polyurethane (E-TPU), which inner tire is enclosed by the outer tire, the inlay and the wheel rim. The inner tire in the assembly is in a compressed state S1, which state is compressed as compared to a relaxed state S2 when the inner tire is not enclosed by the outer tire, the compression being such that the cross-sectional surface area SA of the inner tire, which area is perpendicular to the plane of the tire, is smaller in state S than in state S2.
