LIGHTWEIGHT AXLE
An improved railway car axle has a generally hollow cylindrical elongated body. The axle includes a journal near either end adapted to receive a bearing, and a dust guard adjacent the journals. A wheel seat is adjacent the dust guard and is adapted to receive a railway wheel thereon. The axial center interior portion of the railway axle is generally hollow. The railway axle is comprised of a steel with specified alloy range, mechanical properties and is of specified internal and external dimensions to allow the axle to be formed in a forging operation and to be utilized in heavy haul railway freight car service.
Brake mounting hardware with integrated axle vent system
A heavy-duty vehicle brake hardware mounting component that includes an integrated axle vent system and optional air supply line connector. The brake hardware mounting component includes a body with a central opening disposed around and rigidly attached to an axle of the vehicle. An annular groove is formed within the central opening and is in fluid communication with an axle opening. The air supply line connector is attached within an opening formed in the body and extends through the groove and into the axle opening, and enables attachment of and fluid communication between components of a tire inflation system within the axle and an external air source. Pressurized air from within the axle can flow through the axle opening, around the air supply line connector, through the annular groove, through a check valve in fluid communication with the groove, and to atmosphere to relieve air pressure build-up within the axle.

WHEEL END ASSEMBLY AND SPINDLE CONFIGURED THEREFOR
A spindle for a wheel end assembly includes a first end of the spindle receiving the wheel of a vehicle on a first side of in the wheel end assembly, and a second end of the spindle defining a flange and receiving the axle of a vehicle is disclosed. The flange includes a socket joint that receives the axle on the second side of the wheel end assembly. Mounting members extend distally from the second side a first distance to secure the spindle to the wheel end assembly via the flange. The socket joint of the spindle extends from the second side of the wheel end assembly a second distance from the second side. The second distance is greater than the first distance. A third distance represents degree of overlap of the axle by a ratio with respect to the outer diameter of the axle ranging from 8% to 20%.
