A wheel hub transmission unit for a drive wheel of a vehicle is provided. The wheel hub transmission unit includes a wheel axle, a pinion hub carrier concentrically arranged with respect to the wheel axle, a pinion mounted in a torsionally rigid manner onto said pinion hub carrier and configured to drive the drive wheel, and a torque transmission device having a transmission sleeve. The transmission sleeve is made from a magnetically coded material and includes a measuring area that is utilized to measure a torque by utilizing magnetic properties of the magnetically coded material of the transmission sleeve. An annular space is radially provided between the transmission sleeve and the wheel axle in the measuring area with a sensor coil being accommodated therein, the annular space being axially accessible from outside the transmission sleeve.

Axle Assembly Having an Axle Shaft Subassembly

An axle assembly having an axle shaft subassembly. The axle shaft subassembly may include an axle shaft and an adapter ring. The adapter ring may receive the axle shaft and may be fixedly positioned with respect to the axle shaft. A hub may receive the adapter ring and may be fixedly positioned with respect to the adapter ring.

Axle shaft assemblies for use with a vehicle include a shaft formed from a first material having a first modulus of elasticity for providing the shaft with a flexibility adapted to withstand side impacts and resist deformation. A first end member can be engaged with a first end of the shaft, and a second end member can be engaged with the second end of the shaft. The end members can be formed from a second material having a second modulus of elasticity greater than the first, such that the end members are adapted to withstand a rotational force. The end members can include splined connectors, hub flanges, and other similar components. The resulting axle shaft assembly can thereby include modular combinations of materials having low and high moduli of elasticity.

AXLE ASSEMBLY

An axle assembly that includes a spindle and an axle shaft. The spindle comprises a spindle hole that extends along an axis and a spindle journal that protrudes toward the axis. The axle shaft is disposed in the spindle hole and is rotatable about the axis. The spindle journal cooperates with an axle shaft journal or a seal to restrict lubricant from flowing between the axle shaft and the spindle.
