COMPOSITE WHEEL RIM PREFORM AND METHOD OF FABRICATING A COMPOSITE WHEEL RIM PREFORM
A preform for fabricating a wheel rim and a method of making a preform is provided. The preform includes a main section and at least one secondary section, each section being formed from composite materials, such as triaxially braided composite material that includes fibers oriented in at least three directions. The main section forms at least part of a lateral section of the preform and the secondary section forms at least part of a radial portion of the preform, the radial portion of the preform being generally perpendicular to the lateral section of the preform. The preform is fabricated from a plurality of composite layers, at least some being custom composite layers having a plurality of axial fibers interwoven intermittently with substantially consistent first and second sets of biased fibers. In some embodiments, the preform is initially fabricated in an intermediate configuration prior to being moved to a final configuration.

Fiber structure for an axisymmetric component made of composite material with a varying diameter, and component comprising same
A single-piece woven fiber structure for fabricating an axisymmetric part of varying diameter made out of composite material, the fiber structure having a portion of frustoconical shape with a large diameter and a small diameter, the ratio between the large diameter and the small diameter being not less than 2. The fiber structure is formed by winding layers of warp and weft yarns that are woven on a mandrel having a profile that is defined as a function of the profile of the part to be fabricated with warp yarn take-up. For each layer of yarns, the weft yarns are angularly distributed on a single diameter in a zone of the large diameter of the portion of frustoconical shape and on at least two different diameters in a zone of the small diameter of the portion of frustoconical shape in order to form at least two superposed plies of weft yarns.
BICYCLE WHEEL HUB WITH MOLDED SPOKE HOLES
A hub for a bicycle wheel includes a hub shell that defines one or more spoke holes. The hub shell includes a fiber reinforced material. The fiber reinforced material has one or more reinforcement fibers bending around the spoke holes to remain continuous around the spoke holes. One or more flanges with the spoke holes extend from the hub shell at an outer radial direction. A clutch or freehub adapter is coupled to the hub shell. Depending on the type of clutch mechanism used in the freehub, different clutch adapters can be incorporated into the hub.
Wheel made of fiber composites and process for the manufacture thereof
A one-part wheel which is made of fiber composites without interruption of fibers with excellent mechanical properties and with low weight at the same time as well as a process for the manufacture thereof. The wheel has especially a rim well as well as a wheel disk passing over into a wheel flange of the rim well, where the wheel disk is formed at least partly by fiber layers, which run from the rim well over a wheel flange and the wheel disk. The wheel is manufactured by a multipart mold with parts displaceable at least in the axial direction. The mold is completely removed after the deposition of fibers or remains as a lost core in the wheel.

Rim well with integrated flange made of fiber composites as well as method for manufacturing same
A rim well with integrated flange made of fiber composite as well as to a method for manufacturing same. The flange is formed by inwardly directed protuberances of fiber layers of the rim well, wherein the fiber layers transition to the flange from the rim well without interruption of the fibers. The manufacture is carried out by depositing fiber material on a mold, which corresponds to the contour of the rim well and has a radially circumferential or segmented groove. The fibers are deposited such that the fibers of at least one fiber layer have protuberances directed into the groove. A multipart mold, which makes it possible to reduce the width of the groove and thus a deformation of the protuberances, is preferably used.
