Bicycle rims and method of manufacture thereof

A method of manufacturing a rim includes placing at least one braided sleeve on a core dimensioned to define a shape of an internal wall of the rim. The method includes inserting the braided sleeves placed on the core, inside a mold that is dimensioned to define a shape of an external wall shape of the rim. The method further includes injecting a resin inside the mold to contact the mold and impregnate the sleeves and other layers with resin. The method also includes curing the resin to form the internal and external walls of the rim and obtain a cured rim having the core connected thereto. The method further includes removing the cured rim and core from the mold and melting the core to get it out of the rim.

Composite rim of vehicle wheel and method of manufacturing the same

Disclosed are a composite rim of a vehicle wheel and a method of manufacturing the same, which is reduced in weight through the use of a continuous fiber composite. The rim of a vehicle wheel may be formed by stacking composite sheets, each prepared by impregnating fibers with a resin to form a sheet. The composite sheets may be stacked in multiple layers such that end portions of the respective composite sheets may contact each other in a circumferential direction of the wheel, and discontinuous interfaces, formed at the contacting end portions of the respective composite sheets along an axial direction of the wheel, may not be aligned with each other.

A rim portion of a vehicle wheel has an outer flange portion. In a region of the outer flange portion, a space portion between spoke portions is disposed on a radial-direction inner side, a first inclined surface and a second inclined surface are provided. The first inclined surface is provided on an axial-direction outer side of an outer flange outer circumferential portion. The second inclined surface is on an axial-direction outer side of an outer flange inner circumferential portion. The first inclined surface is formed to incline from the axial-direction outer side toward an axial-direction inner side as the first inclined surface extends from a radial-direction outer side end toward the radial-direction inner side.
