Composite wheel assembly and method of construction thereof

A composite wheel assembly and method of construction thereof is provided. The composite wheel assembly includes a lightweight annular fiber-reinforced barrel having an inner surface and an outer surface configured to support a tire thereon. A lightweight metal central hub assembly is fixed to the barrel. The metal central hub assembly includes a central hub portion and plurality of support spokes extending outwardly from the metal central hub portion. A wheel cladding contrasting in at least one of material type, color, texture and surface finish to an outwardly facing surface of the central hub assembly is fixed to the outwardly facing surface of the central hub assembly.

Method for providing wheels for motor vehicles, and associated wheels

A method for providing motor vehicle wheels made of composite material based on carbon fiber includes the steps of dividing each wheel into a plurality of portions having small dimensions; providing a a first portion with the terminal edges designed to mate with corresponding edges of a respective second portion; mating the portions, arranging them subsequently within a respective mold whose shape and dimensions are conjugate with respect to those of the wheel to be manufactured; and bringing the mold and its contents to a predefined temperature. The method further includes injecting into the mold a resin in the liquid state, the resin being injected at high pressure and high temperature, forming the matrix of the composite that constitutes the wheel; maintaining the pressure and temperature of the mold within predefined ranges for a time interval that is required for the at least partial cross-linking of the resin; and extracting the wheel from the mold.

CRAWLER-TYPE TRAVELING DEVICE AND IDLER THEREOF

To provide an idler of a crawler-type traveling device which secures the strength while suppressing an increase in the weight and cost, and a crawler-type traveling device provided with the same. An idler includes a hub section that is axially supported; a rim section that is disposed coaxially with the hub section; and plates that connect the hub section and the rim section. At least one of the hub section and the rim section has flange sections that rise toward the other. The plates are mounted to the flange sections.

HYBRID METAL AND COMPOSITE POLYMER WHEELS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES

Presented are hybrid metal and fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite wheels for vehicle wheel assemblies, methods for making/using such wheels, and motor vehicles equipped with such wheels. A wheel for a motor vehicle wheel assembly includes a wheel face with multiple spokes that are circumferentially spaced about and project radially outward from a central hub. The central hub rotatably attaches to the vehicle's body, e.g., via a corner module. The wheel face is fabricated, e.g., as a one-piece structure, from an FRP material. A wheel barrel, which circumscribes the wheel face, includes an annular rim that mounts thereon an inflatable tire. The wheel barrel is fabricated, e.g., as a one-piece structure, from a metallic material. Multiple overmold through holes and/or inset tabs are circumferentially spaced about the annular rim. The FRP material extends through and/or surrounds the overmold through holes/inset tabs and thereby mounts the wheel face to the wheel barrel.

A rim for a wheel of a vehicle and having: a central hub; a peripheral ring, on which a tyre can be fitted; and a series of spokes, which are arranged radially and connect the peripheral ring to the central hub. Each spoke has three initial branches, which are distinct and separate from one another, originate from different portions of the central hub and, at a given distance from the central hub, join one another so as to form one single central branch, which ends in the peripheral ring.

Disc Wheel with Internal Bracing

A bicycle disc wheel comprises a first disc panel and a second disc panel. The first disc panel has a first side outer surface and a first side inner surface and the second disc panel has a second side outer surface and a second side inner surface. The first side outer surface radially extends from a first disc panel outer perimeter to a center opening and the second side outer surface radially extends from a second disc panel outer perimeter to the center opening. The second side inner surface faces the first side inner surface. A brace is coupled to the first side inner surface and the second side inner surface that provide radial and axial structural support to the disc panels.

WHEEL FOR RAILWAY VEHICLE

A wheel includes a boss, a rim, and a web. The rim includes a tread and a flange. A center of the rim in the axial direction of the wheel is disposed closer to the flange in the axial direction than a center of the boss in the axial direction is. The web has a plate-thickness center line that has a linear shape when the wheel is viewed in its longitudinal section. When an angle that the plate-thickness center line forms with the axial direction is denoted by α, a distance in the axial direction from a side face of the rim to an outer end of the plate-thickness center line is denoted by Pw, a length of the rim in the axial direction is denoted by Wr, and Pw/Wr is denoted by L, the wheel satisfies the expression L ≥ 0.0223α-1.363. Where, the angle α is 90° or less.
