A heavy duty pneumatic tire in which occurrence of uneven wear is inhibited is provided. In the tire, each shoulder land portion includes a groove wall portion forming a wall of a shoulder circumferential groove, and a cap portion located outward of the groove wall portion in an axial direction. A wear resistance index of the groove wall portion is lower than a wear resistance index of the cap portion. A ratio of a distance in the axial direction from an outer edge of the shoulder circumferential groove to a boundary between the groove wall portion and the cap portion on an outer surface of the shoulder land portion, to a width in the axial direction of the shoulder land portion, is not less than 20% and not greater than 30%.

The tread portion has a tread profile comprising a crown arc portion having a radius R1 of curvature and a pair of shoulder arc portions having a radius R2 of curvature. The radius R1 is smaller than the radius R2 and smaller than 50% of the maximum tire cross-section width Wt. In a normal state of the tire, the axial ends of the crown arc portion are respectively positioned axially inward of the outer edges of the jointless band ply.

The at least one gum strip has a first portion in contact with a top surface of the lower belt and a bottom surface of the upper belt. The at least one gum strip has a second portion disposed below the lower belt.

A radially outermost layer of the main belt layer has reinforcement cords with a specified diameter. The first cushion layer has a radial thickness between 0.5 and 4.0 times the specified diameter.

A tire (10) includes: a carcass (14), which toroidally extends between a pair of bead portions; and a spiral cord layer (1), which is arranged on a tire radial-direction outer side of the carcass in a crown portion and in which an upper layer (1A) and a lower layer (1B) are formed by spirally winding reinforcing cords. In this tire (10), the reinforcing cords of the spiral cord layer have an angle in a range of 10 to 45 with respect to a tire circumferential direction, a belt under-cushion rubber (18) is arranged on a tire radial-direction inner side of a tire width-direction end of the spiral cord layer, and the belt under-cushion rubber has a 100% modulus in a range of 1 to 6 MPa.

A base ring is formed at a tire radial inside of the resin-coated belt, while being in contact with a tire widthwise outer end of the resin-coated belt.
