In the present technology, a thermally expandable microcapsule complex is blended in a rubber component, the thermally expandable microcapsule complex being obtained by preparing an aqueous solution of a water-soluble polymer having a concentration of 1 to 30 mass %, adding from 5 to 60 parts by mass of cellulose fibers to 100 parts by mass of the aqueous solution to prepare a liquid dispersion (1), adding from 10 to 200 parts by mass of thermally expandable microcapsules to the liquid dispersion (1) to prepare a liquid dispersion 2), and evaporating the moisture content of the liquid dispersion (2).

A tread for a pneumatic tire includes tread pattern elements and cuts. Each tread pattern element includes lateral faces and a contact face that comes into contact with a road surface when the tire is being driven thereon. A boundary between the contact face and the lateral faces forms at least one edge corner. The cuts are formed as grooves and/or sipes, with the cuts being delimited by opposing lateral faces of the tread pattern elements. Each tread pattern element is formed of at least one rubber compound. When the tread is viewed in cross section in a plane normal to an axis of rotation of the tire and passing through a contact face of a tread pattern element, at least one of the cuts adjacent to that contact face is covered at least in part with a covering layer that contains a woven or nonwoven fiber assembly.

The rubber composition for studless winter tires contains: a rubber component; a chemically modified microfibrillated cellulose; carbon black; and silica, the chemically modified microfibrillated cellulose having an average fiber diameter of 0.1 m or less, the rubber component having a combined amount of natural rubber and polybutadiene rubber of 30-100% by mass based on 100% by mass of the rubber component, the rubber composition containing, per 100 parts by mass of the rubber component, 1-10 parts by mass of the chemically modified microfibrillated cellulose, 10-80 parts by mass of the carbon black, and 10-80 parts by mass of the silica.
