Pneumatic radial tire for a passenger vehicle and method of using the same

A pneumatic radial tire for a passenger vehicle according to the present invention has an appropriate relationship between a tire cross-sectional width SW and a tire outer diameter OD. Also, a method of using the pneumatic radial tire for a passenger vehicle according to the present invention is to use the above radial tire with at least specified internal pressure.

Pneumatic tire

To reduce noise while suppressing increase in rolling resistance, without affecting the formation of a carcass line, provided is a pneumatic tire (10) including: a carcass (13); an inclined belt (14), and an inner liner (17). The inclined belt (14) is disposed on the tire radial outer side of the crown portion of the carcass (13). The inclined belt (14) includes at least one inclined belt layer (16). The inclined belt layer (16) has cords extending as being inclined at 35 or more with respect to the tire circumferential direction. The inner liner (17) has a thickness of 1.5 mm or more at least in part of a side portion (19).

TIRE HAVING OPTIMIZED PERFORMANCE IN TERMS OF ROLLING RESISTANCE WITHOUT IMPAIRING THE INDUSTRIAL PERFORMANCE

The rolling resistance of a tire has been improved without degrading industrial performance. The sidewall (30) consists of two sub-layers. A first sub-layer (FE1) of thickness E1 and volume V1 provides the expected protection functions of a sidewall as the outer wall of the tire, and a second sub-layer of the sidewall (FE2) of thickness E2 and volume V2 is optimized at low hysteresis to improve rolling resistance. The ratio V1/(V1+V2) of the volumes of the two sub-layers (FE1, FE2) is less than or equal to 0.3. The elongation at break of the compound of FE1 is greater than or equal to 200% measured at a temperature of 100? C., and the viscoelastic loss of the compound of FE2, Tan(?)max, is less than or equal to 0.10.

A run-flat tire ensures run-flat durability with a reduced weight. A tire radial outermost carcass ply of two or more carcass plies has tire widthwise inner ends in a crown portion. A bead filler and side reinforcing rubber have an overlapping part in the tire width direction. In a cross section of the run-flat tire in the tire width direction in a state where the run-flat tire is attached to an applicable rim, filled to a specified internal pressure, and placed under no load, a thickness d1 of a sidewall portion at a midpoint in the tire radial direction between a maximum width position of the run-flat tire and a tire radial outermost position of a bead core is greater than a thickness d2 of the sidewall portion at a midpoint in the tire radial direction between the maximum width position of the run-flat tire and a tread edge.
