The system includes a computing device which can receive one or more distance readings from the array of light-based sensors, generate a parabola approximating a contact area of the tire based at least in part on the one or more distance readings, approximate a shape of the contact area based at least in part on the parabola, and determine a static load estimation based at least in part on the shape of the contact area.
