Suspension system

A suspension system for a traveling vehicle body is disclosed. The system includes a suspension reference position varying mechanism (18) for varying a reference position of a suspension stroke of the suspension mechanism (100), and a controller (35) configured to calculate an intermediate value from a maximal value corresponding to the maximal position of the suspension stroke and a minimal value corresponding to the minimal position of the suspension stroke, and to control the suspension reference position varying mechanism such that, when the calculated intermediate values deviates from a set target range, the intermediate value is displaced toward the target range. The controller (35) increases a control execution frequency for the suspension reference position varying mechanism (18) when the traveling speed of the vehicle body is low, and reduces the control execution frequency for the suspension reference position varying mechanism (18) when the traveling speed of the vehicle body is high.

RIDE HEIGHT CONTROL ACTUATOR

An actuator includes a first housing, a second housing fixed to the first housing, and a piston configured to translate relative to each of the first housing and the second housing. The actuator also includes a locking device configured to selectively restrain the piston in a predetermined position relative to each of the first housing and the second housing and release the piston. The actuator additionally includes an actuation mechanism configured to activate the locking device to thereby restrain the piston in the predetermined position. Also disclosed is a suspension system for a vehicle employing such an actuator at a suspension corner, wherein the actuator is used to set a ride height of the vehicle at the suspension corner.

Energy harvesting passive and active suspension

A hydraulic actuator includes an energy recuperation device which harvests the energy generated from the stroking of a shock absorber. The energy recuperation device can function in a passive energy recovery mode for the shock absorber to store recovered energy as fluid pressure or it can be converted to another form of energy such as electrical energy.

A stopped vehicle height of an air suspension for a stop-side wheel on a side that stops first is determined in consideration of a vehicle height that changes in accordance with a vehicle height change of the air suspension for a supply/discharge-side wheel on another side after a stop. Thus, when vehicle height adjustment of the air suspension for the supply/discharge-side wheel is finished, the stopped vehicle height of the air suspension for the stop-side wheel can be adjusted to the vicinity of a target value and the precision in the vehicle height adjustment can be increased.
