System and method for controlling a stop function or a door opening function of a vehicle

A system controls a stop function or a door opening function of a vehicle. The system includes an actuating element which is designed to generate an actuation signal depending on an actuation by a vehicle occupant, and a control device which is designed to receive the actuation signal and, in response to receiving the actuation signal and depending on a travel velocity of the vehicle, to trigger either the stop function or the door opening function.

Systems and methods for controlling operation of a vehicle are described herein. According to exemplary embodiments, an off-road vehicle includes a chassis, a seating area supported by the chassis, one or more sensors configured to acquire data to facilitate detecting whether one or more conditions are met for unrestricted operation of the off-road vehicle, and a control system. The control system is configured to acquire the data from the one or more sensors and restrict operation of the off-road vehicle responsive to determining that at least one of the one or more conditions is not met. The control system is configured to permit unrestricted operation of the off-road vehicle responsive to determining that the one or more conditions are met.

A vehicle system having an automatic vehicle securement feature to prevent an unoccupied vehicle from driving away includes a controller programmed to initiate the automatic vehicle securement feature, if a first set of conditions is satisfied, by engaging the parking brake and/or parking pawl to thereby prevent the vehicle from driving away. The controller determines if there is a fault of the first set of conditions, if the first set of conditions is not satisfied, and then determines, by the camera-based monitoring system, if a driver is present within the vehicle, if there is a fault of the first set of conditions. The controller initiates the automatic vehicle securement feature if the driver is determined not present within the vehicle, even though the first set of conditions is not satisfied.

A vehicle system configured with a user selectable override of an automatic vehicle securement feature to prevent an unoccupied vehicle from driving includes a PRND shifter, a Park button configured to command the vehicle into a Park position, a brake system controller with a parking brake, an occupant restraint controller to determine a driver seat belt status, and a body computer configured to determine if a driver door is ajar. A controller is programmed to initiate the automatic vehicle securement feature and engage the parking brake when conditions are met to prevent the vehicle from driving away, and override the automatic vehicle securement feature when a user presses the Park button for a predetermined period of time while the vehicle is already in the Park position, to thereby enable the user to drive the vehicle when the conditions for the automatic vehicle securement feature are met.
