Vehicle driver monitoring system

A driver monitoring system for a vehicle includes a vehicle data acquisition system operable to determine vehicle status information after a vehicle is involved in a collision including information pertaining to (i) the collision of the vehicle, (ii) an overturning of the vehicle, (iii) water intrusion into the vehicle and (iv) airbag deployment. A driver status information acquisition system is operable to determine health parameters of the driver of the vehicle. A communication system of the vehicle is operable to wirelessly communicate with a remote assistance system. Responsive to the vehicle status information determined by the vehicle data acquisition system and the driver health parameters determined by the driver information acquisition system, the communication system wirelessly communicates information to the remote assistance system and, responsive to the communication received by the remote assistance system, the remote assistance system determines an appropriate response to the vehicle collision.

An improved distributed information sharing system (DISS) and methods for an autonomous vehicle, the DISS programmed and configured to receive information from a plurality of distributed sensors; determine the existence of an incident, vehicles, passengers, pedestrians, animals and objects involved in the incident, a nature of the injuries and damages from the incident; determine if the autonomous vehicle can be safely moved autonomously from a location where the incident occurred to a second location; contact an emergency responder when the vehicle cannot be safely moved autonomously; receive a request to transfer control of the vehicle from an emergency responder user device; and in response, transfer control of the automated vehicle to a trusted emergency responder without requiring approval from an owner of the vehicle using encryption and handshake techniques; and notify an owner or interested party of the vehicle of the incident.

RESTARTING METHOD AND RESTARTING ASSEMBLY FOR STARTING AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE OF A MOTOR VEHICLE

The invention relates to a restarting method for automatically starting an internal combustion engine (2) of a motor vehicle (3) by means of a brake pedal actuation, comprising the following steps: detecting a brake pressure (p) by means of a brake pressure sensor (14); emitting a corresponding brake pressure signal sequence to a control device (13); determining a brake pressure profile (p.sub.pr) from the brake pressure signal sequence; determining a reference pressure value (p.sub.R) from the brake pressure profile; detecting a brake release status, wherein, with the release of a brake pedal, a brake pressure decrease (p) is detected based on the determined reference pressure value (p.sub.R), with said decrease exceeding a pressure decrease limit value (p.sub.G); emitting a starting signal (S.sub.WS) to a starter (15) for starting the internal combustion engine (2), if the brake release status has been detected. The invention also relates to a restarting assembly for a motor vehicle (1) for carrying out a method of this type.

A method for reactivation of an electrical system of a vehicle comprising a first electrical system operating at a first lower voltage and a second electrical system operating at a second higher voltage, comprising: detecting a fault or a crash situation in the second electrical system; disconnecting a power source of the second electrical system; determining the fault of the second electrical system is no longer present or that the crash situation is resolved; reconnecting the power source to the second electrical system and increasing the voltage of the second electrical system from zero to an intermediate voltage lower than the second voltage; and if a detected current in the second electrical system is higher than a current threshold value; or if a detected voltage of the first electrical system is higher than a voltage threshold value; reducing the voltage of the second electrical system to zero.

Vehicle video camera/recorder initiated emergency calling

A system includes a processing device and a personal communication device. The dash camera may be configured to be removably mounted in a vehicle with a view of a direction ahead of the vehicle and no further installation to said vehicle. The personal communication device is generally separate from the dash camera and the vehicle. The dash camera generally comprises a processing device and one or more sensors configured to generate data related to motion of the vehicle. The processing device generally collects (i) the data related to motion of the vehicle and (ii) video, and, in response to the data being indicative of an accident, automatically communicates collected data and a video sequence recorded prior to the data being indicative of the accident to the personal communication device and automatically initiates an emergency call using the personal communication device.

Vehicular driver monitoring system

A vehicular driver monitoring system includes a driver status information acquisition system and an in-vehicle control system of the vehicle. The driver status information acquisition system receives data from a plurality of sensors in the vehicle and determines the driver status responsive to processing of the received data. While the driver is not driving the vehicle and the in-vehicle control system is autonomously driving the vehicle, and responsive to determination that the driver of the vehicle should take over driving the vehicle from the in-vehicle control system, the in-vehicle control system alerts the driver to indicate that the driver should take over driving the vehicle. Responsive to the status of the driver while the driver is not driving the vehicle being indicative of the driver not being able to take over driving the vehicle, the in-vehicle control system continues driving the vehicle and initiates an emergency action.
